I thought it was going to go okay since I got up with no issues at a time I haven't had to be awake at since last April. And then it went downhill from there...

First my diabetic shake opened with an odd 'pop'. I look and realize there is something seriously bad here. THere's no safety cover on it for one. So there went breakfast. I figure okay, it's not healthy but they always give us muffins at the beginning of the faculty meeting...

only they didn't. Sob. At least I had coffee. At the first break I'm one of the first in line at the bathroom to find one of which has been bagged over. At least there's three other stalls. I wait for a while listening to the women shriek. The water is coming into the toilets and out of the sink the color of coffee. I can live with that. WHen I flush the one in the handicapped stall it starts spurting out the bottom and out from between the seat and the bowl, flooding two stalls... head desk.

I learn that the school is in WAY more financial trouble than any of us knew. Holy hell. I don't want to say more than that in an open forum.

Then my best attended classes are nearly empty because they're senior level classes which means they don't count for the community college rate and no one wants to pay it (we're b oth CC and university).

Speaking of that odd combo the state of Ohio just did us a solid. THey ruled that the University CAN govern the CC so we can axe one president (there's 100K + in salary back into the kitty).

they don't give us lunch either but our department bought it for ourselves. What a welcome to the two new biology faculty. They probably want to run screaming

My friend at work asks me if she should ride her bike (she's an avid cylcist) since it's so god awful hot and humid. I'm like why are you asking ME?

I get home to find out that Dish STILL hasn't fixed my local channels. I call them up and say you know I called you guys 10 days ago and no one has done anything, called me nothing. The first guy at tech support says we can't help you here (Um this IS tech support, right?) and gives me the direct number. I call it and it's deactivated. I call back totally ripping now. new tech says there is no service order on this problem. The new tech INSISTS I do the hard restart of my satellite. I explain I've done this 10 days ago to no avail. Fine. I do it. Once again it fails to fix it. He says well it's NOT Dish's fault. It's my LOCAL provider's fault. Well you're the one contracted to them Dish NOT me. I can't call them up and say fix it. He tells me there's a work order and I need to be patient (um didn't you tell me there was NO work order when we started this conversation). Wonders how much it'll cost to switch to Direct TV.

Jeezus, your bathroom story sound like the first night of operation at the new cinema at The Highlands. All the toilets overflowed on both sides of the theater and in both the men's and women's restrooms. No potties for a theater full of men, women, and children gorging themselves on free pop. *facepalm*

Man, that all sucks. I hope the school can put the salary money to good use (like maybe fixing the toilets). That sucks about the dish. I've never had satellite so I can only imagine. Can you get a deal if you combine new internet with new tv?

the satellite internet from Direct SUCKS and this is from the guy who installs it (he's the secretary's husband) I've used it. it's slow as hell and limited.

Tehre is no cable.

waah

Sorry your job is sucking. I keep hearing from my sister's friends who just went off to college how the professors are dropping some of their classes. It's not just Ohio apparently.

Yes and No. The Pres. has held a Start-Up Day with the +/- of each academic year, a meet-n-greet for new faculty and staff, a public pat on the back for those promoted, and a downing discussion of the (always) pathetic budget.

This year, however, the Pres decided to forgo this in favor of a Start-Up day in OCTOBER! This is due to personal reasons, which I won't go into here. Suffice it to say, we are all RELIEVED. I hope it's the end of Start-Up Day, from my side. It's a general pain-in-the-arse.

Sounds like you had a hell of a day. That bathroom problem would have sent me over the edge.

Tell your coworker that hot humid weather (you called that hot and humid? hahah) does not preclude cycling or bike commuting to work. She just needs to dress appropriately, be prepared to sponge off (or do a quick shower in the locker room if that's allowed) and change into work clothes. and most importantly stay hydrated which means having extra water. depends on the length of her commute, but mine was about 8 miles, and I carried two bottles in the heat of summer and that was fine. usually I wanted one of them refilled when I got there.

she just came back from biking all the way across Switzerland. She's good at this. She just hates humidity and heat too. She commutes by bike all the time. Bet she's all excited about how beautiful today is

that bathroom thing started the day. It went down hill from there. Sheesh
