I thought it was going to go okay since I got up with no issues at a time I haven't had to be awake at since last April. And then it went downhill from there...
First my diabetic shake opened with an odd 'pop'. I look and realize there is something seriously bad here. THere's no safety cover on it for one. So there went breakfast. I figure okay, it's not healthy but they always give us muffins at the beginning of the faculty meeting...
only they didn't. Sob. At least I had coffee. At the first break I'm one of the first in line at the bathroom to find one of which has been bagged over. At least there's three other stalls. I wait for a while listening to the women shriek. The water is coming into the toilets and out of the sink the color of coffee. I can live with that. WHen I flush the one in the handicapped stall it starts spurting out the bottom and out from between the seat and the bowl, flooding two stalls... head desk.
I learn that the school is in WAY more financial trouble than any of us knew. Holy hell. I don't want to say more than that in an open forum.
Then my best attended classes are nearly empty because they're senior level classes which means they don't count for the community college rate and no one wants to pay it (we're b oth CC and university).
Speaking of that odd combo the state of Ohio just did us a solid. THey ruled that the University CAN govern the CC so we can axe one president (there's 100K + in salary back into the kitty).
they don't give us lunch either but our department bought it for ourselves. What a welcome to the two new biology faculty. They probably want to run screaming
My friend at work asks me if she should ride her bike (she's an avid cylcist) since it's so god awful hot and humid. I'm like why are you asking ME?
I get home to find out that Dish STILL hasn't fixed my local channels. I call them up and say you know I called you guys 10 days ago and no one has done anything, called me nothing. The first guy at tech support says we can't help you here (Um this IS tech support, right?) and gives me the direct number. I call it and it's deactivated. I call back totally ripping now. new tech says there is no service order on this problem. The new tech INSISTS I do the hard restart of my satellite. I explain I've done this 10 days ago to no avail. Fine. I do it. Once again it fails to fix it. He says well it's NOT Dish's fault. It's my LOCAL provider's fault. Well you're the one contracted to them Dish NOT me. I can't call them up and say fix it. He tells me there's a work order and I need to be patient (um didn't you tell me there was NO work order when we started this conversation). Wonders how much it'll cost to switch to Direct TV.

Date: 2009-08-23 03:11 am (UTC)This year, however, the Pres decided to forgo this in favor of a Start-Up day in OCTOBER! This is due to personal reasons, which I won't go into here. Suffice it to say, we are all RELIEVED. I hope it's the end of Start-Up Day, from my side. It's a general pain-in-the-arse.

Date: 2009-08-23 01:34 pm (UTC)Tell your coworker that hot humid weather (you called that hot and humid? hahah) does not preclude cycling or bike commuting to work. She just needs to dress appropriately, be prepared to sponge off (or do a quick shower in the locker room if that's allowed) and change into work clothes. and most importantly stay hydrated which means having extra water. depends on the length of her commute, but mine was about 8 miles, and I carried two bottles in the heat of summer and that was fine. usually I wanted one of them refilled when I got there.
