cornerofmadnessI was going to whine about all I didn't do this week then thought, geez, you're being hard on yourself. Then I ran across this on my flist. Justine Musk on writing She's a published author in the urban fantasy genre and this just really struck a chord with me and I thought I'd share it with the other authors on my list.
And it's not that I've been lying around doing nothing. I spent the week lugging 10 year old crap out of the basement, came back to OH, got ready for the new semester and still wrote 1300 words of original fiction, not counting all the fanfic.
Also I edited Mysterious Spirit and thought you know the editor from Dreamspinner Press is right, this IS good. I hope to have it to them tonight.

evil_little_dog is right, the beginning is weak. And I think i know how to move it along.
So if you're on the original fiction filter, ignore last night's post. It's getting scrapped. If you WANT to be on the original fiction filter and get to see my non-fan work, this would be a good time to ask and I'll put you on.
In the meantime, meet Killian. He's one of the leads in the werewolf YA I'm trying very hard to finish.

HAIR: Wheat gold, wavy
STYLE: sort of shaggy to the shoulders

BUILD: he’s thin, he says wiry, they say scrawny.
MARKS/SCARS: has a few scars over his left wrist that he hides with wrist bracers or bracelets
NOTABLE FEATURES: the failed suicide scars, he has synesthesia
VOICE: has a melodic cadence. His voice is deepening
ACCENT: definite Irish brogue.

MAGICAL ABILITIES (if any): he’s a seer. He gets uncontrollable flashes of the future
PERSONALITY/HISTORY – Killian’s mother used to work for O’Connor, a novelist. When she died of cancer, O’Connor and his new wife, Mairin became his guardian. He was about seven. They are psychologically, physically and sexually abusive to him. Having lived with it from such a young age, Killian feels utterly helpless against them, too frightened to even try and turn them in. At sixteen, he would have been a legal adult in Ireland so before that happened they moved to Madison WI where O’Connor is lecturing for U of Wi. O’Connor keeps Killian around (he’s too old for O’Connor now to be sexually interested) to capitalize on his visions. Unbeknownst to Killian, Mairin is a Leanan sidhe, a type of energy vampire, who feeds off him even as she uses his body.
Killian is usually very reserved. O’Connor kept moving them around Ireland and now to another country. He’s learned not to make friends and if he does, he knows that he can never take them home. He’s all too good at keeping secrets. When he gets to WI, things start changing for him. The new kid in class actually got welcomed by some but is reviled by others as the star football player, who had been picking on him, died on his first day in class. Killian quickly becomes the prime suspect as others die.
Worse for him, he’s falling in love with Tazia Dragonetti, the teenaged daughter of the lead homicide detective who happens to think he might be a killer. Killian does have a sense of humor and he’s smarter than he lets on. He’s a practicing pagan but doesn’t mention that often.
