by a giant influx of manga for me to review for Manga jouhou
And this day needed rescuing since we learned at the meeting tonight that they expect us to cover each other's classes. What is this? HIgh School? I could see it maybe if we were out for a week or two? as if we're that flexible.
and then i think my freezer has had one too many power outages. The cauliflower was horrid so i tossed it without cooking. The broccoli looked good. Oh it wasn't. what as waste of wine and garlic to go with... Ithink it's time to defrost that freezer and toss it all out and start over.
And really the what to read was horrible. THis was my yesterday evening read in the tub ritual.
First I had tried to pick up last years Kathy Reichs Temperance Brennan book from the library and saw too i swore I never read. I remembered one of them once i had it home. Took a hundred pages to realize i had read the other (apparently the whole melodrama of two men leaving her the same day was too much for my brain and it barfed it out) so i put them aside.
Bone Garden by Tess Gerritsen is unexpectedly dull for her so I moved on to Dance of the Thundering Dogs, one of my Native American mysteries. We spend the first 30 pages with the main character whining about home not being home then he sleeps with someone he hasn't seen since high school IN the high school spontaneously (talk about your male fantsies. Sorry but I've never been moved to chuck my panties for an old classmate the moment he'sback in MY orbit). Then looking at the flap i see it's one of the cop is accused of murder stories and must clear himself. That is SO overdone so I tossed it.
Next came Chelsea Quinn Yarbo, a thriftstore buy. In the first 20 pages it opens with a dystopian future (whihc I hate) and the lead female is nearly raped (okay it was written in the 70's i thought maybe she'smaking a statement about the powerlessness of women at that time), then has her nipples cut off, is rescued before she's raped by the dude she picked up five minutes before and she starts whining she wanted it to be HIM that tried to sleep with her. Uh what? we're running for our lives, you've known him five minutes, someone jsut cut off part of your body and that's what you're thinking? ....
(girl thoughts)

So tons and tons of manga to make things better. With my luck they'll suck and I have to read them.

Date: 2009-08-27 02:14 am (UTC)I'm kind of disappointed with the book I told you I got from the library the other day but am persevering. I keep hoping something interesting will happen but for now it's teen angst and not necessarily fun angst.
