I thought I'd have nothing to say given how horrible this week was but actually I knocked down 3732 words of new original fiction plus who knows what in fanfiction. I finally wrestled a new beginning onto that old vampire thing. It's up on my original fiction filter for input if you'd like. Right now I'm actually kicking butt on the werewolf YA. 10K more and it'll officially be novel length so i need to start thinking about wrapping it up and moving toward a conclusion.

I've even edited some original fiction for others. Hope to get to [livejournal.com profile] mjules new novel tonight and did some for my friend's steampunk romance which is rather humorous and has enough of the steam in it to make me forget I'm reading romance (not always my favorite genre without add-in's like the supernatural or mystery or something more in my field). So I guess I'm accomplishing stuff.

Now that I'm back in touch with my German friend we're chatting a lot. He made a comment that got me thinking, along the lines of if a bigshot like Stephen King decided to contract directly with kindle, the publishing houses might go the way of the doodoo. it's something to think about at any rate (especially for those friends of mine with novels they don't know how to cut down to satisfy the existing system)

Of course not everything is beer and skittles in the writing world. My story's anthology is still not out and ones that I'm pretty sure were filled AFTER it are. I don't want to be a pest and ask after it, at least not yet. I just get paranoid. I have a track record of getting stories accepted then the thing folds before it sees print. In fact the above mentioned vampire thing was bought THREE times 13 years ago and never once actually saw print.

As for the fanfic issues, I guess a lot of my bitching lately has been centered over the anonymous kink meme's (all of them not just one) where we get people using the anonymous part of it to either put up pairing requests that bash the pairing or worse, fill a pairing request with a story that bashes the pairing.I can't understand that sort of trolling. My god, to take the time to write a story that is so obviously NOT what the requestor wanted is beyond me. That would be like me writing a Buffy/SPike story where Buffy is only using Spike because Angel isn't around or writing Ed/Winry where Ed's wishing Winry was Al. There are plenty of requests for so many pairings, I don't get why people can't ignore the ones they don't like. I don't go into the Roy/Ed section and make a request that Roy really wants Riza while he's doing Ed. I wish people would stop being stupid. It's making me long for the paperzine days when every story went to an editor for approval. (oh we had OTHER issues back then, don't you worry but still...)

To end on a less sour note go check out [livejournal.com profile] moschus's journal. SHe put up two excellent writing blogs this week. She's the urban fantasy author I mentioned last week.

I can understand your frustration on the fandom issue. I have never figured out why people put so much effort to mess with things.

I had fallen out of writing and reading fanfiction for awhile back around 2007. Then I found checkmated.com, a Ron/Hermione fanfic site that was cool with other ships as long as they didn't mess with Ron/Hermione... Every story had to go through a site beta before it could be posted and had to meet certain standards (they required most stories to stick to canon).

It was a nice breath of fresh air that allowed me to get back into fandom again.

that's rather cool that they do that. There were Buffydom archives that did editorial reviews before allowing something to be archived.

I guess it's the whole anonymous thing, oooo no one knows who I am, let me act like an ass.

That's why I disabled anonymous posting to my lj.if you have something to say, have the balls to sign your name to it.

Totally. There's a website here that is a forum for local politics, etc. All they ever do is tear everyone down. According to the posters there, no one is doing anything right to the point that they're criminally neglecting their duties. They revel in their anonymity. None of the people who post there do anything to better the things they complain about.

same thing on the science article sites. Frankly i'm not sure i LIKE the idea of new articles allowing discussion since everyone is either stupid or intolerant and I hate seeing it

I know I don't like it. We don't have our news online, so we don't have to worry about it, but the news channels up in Tallahassee do, and the comments get ugly, personal and probably libelous just about every time.

i know. they frighten me, truthfully.

My publisher hates them. As he points out, we are liable if we publish a letter to the editor if its libelous, but website comments are a free for all.

I sold two articles to an adult products website last summer, and they *still* haven't gone up. Granted, it was nice to actually get paid for my writing, but I can't exactly use them for clips of my public work.

Of course, considering the stories, I'd have to be careful when bragging about them, anyway. :-)

Hm, if I can help restore your faith in the FMA fandom just a little? I totally understand your point about people abusing the anon setting of the memes to bash other people's pairings and otherwise make it unpleasant for others to read there. I think it's plain mean to go and fill a prompt in a way to make the OP feel upset (not to mention a huge waste of time). As for the requests "bashing" other pairings, I don;t think that is always the case. I enjoy lots of pairings, and I also enjoy a good bit of dark!fic. I've enjoyed prompt fills where Roy was only using Riza for the sex, or was thinking of Ed (or vise-versa) while he was with the other. i think people need to show more respect and write only the prompts that inspire them (and meet the requester's ideas -no bashing) but at the same time, we should all keep in mind that some people enjoy and request darker the themed fics and aren't out to make others feel bad. Please ignore me if this sounds patronizing or jsut plain dumb. XD I jsut wanted to share my views in case it could help you feel better about the fandom. Having been a part of more than one, I can honestly say my FMA expereience has been the best out of any fandom I've been a part in. I hate to think others aren't enjoying it the way I do.

I think when the list moderator had to step in (in both here and in the saiyuki one) and say enough of this, then it's no longer a quest for darkfic. Especially when it's only showing up for one pairing. When that happens it begins to feel like not a search for something dark but a quest to cut something down.

Maybe there needs to be a darkfic section for things like that I like dark fic but i wouldn't go putting something like that on a pairing list when really it's NOT the pairing at all

That is a good suggestion for a dark!fic section. Anything outside of that section popping up would be obvious trolling.
