besides OUCH and fucking hell were

1. Is my skirt up over my panties (No and eh, at least it was the cute tuquoise and gold ones)

2. geez I'm wearing a black lacy goth skirt and I totally landed in the stereotypical knock kneed Goth-Loli position. Where's a manga artist to capture this when you need it

3. son of a bitch I landed on my Ed Hardy sunglasses (which amazing did not break. the hinge bent out some but hell now they fit even better)

My secretary was laughing at my ire over landing on the glasses. She's like COM you probably broke your knee cap and you're worried over glasses. Damn straight, when else will i get 280$ sunglasses for 20$ I don't want them ruined.

The chem prof got me ice out of the chem lab and put it in a trash liner but I couldn't ice it much this morning since I had to teach. Worse tomorrow is my big bone practical and I had to set it up which takes hours. So once I was all done with that and I spoke to HR it was agreed I should go to urgent care especially since i HAVE broken both my knee caps in the past.

The doc was actually very concerned given the size of the ecchymosis and edema and x-rayed it. He seemed vaguely surprised that it isn't broken but cautioned me that X-rays can take up to two weeks to show cracks (this i knew, you can't see them until the healing callus forms) It's too early to think it's more than badly bruised. It is clicking but I don't think that I tore the meniscus because it wasnt a twisting tear. I went straight down.

He told me to go do RICE (rest, ice compression elevation I have the ottoman under my computer desk and i have the ice pack on it) and asked if I wanted any narcotics. I declined. All they do is make me ill and in pain so then i get to try to puke on one leg. Thanks no.

Since i no longer have an ice pack (and Holzer unlike hospitals in WI didn't give them out) I hobbled into Wal Mart and bought a few things I needed including the ice pack and a half galloon of Jose Cuervo margaritas. Oh i won't be feeling any pain tonight.

I really need to win one of those 250 million dollar lottos and just buy myself a house boy and never leave my estate again.

Mmm...I know he and his sister are planning on a cruise there - I've been in on the conversations. Don't know for sure if that's the one he's talking about, though.

nods i wanted to go until I saw just how non-compliant the cruise ships are and how much they've damaged the Alaskan ecosystem

Along with everywhere else in the world, yes. I did read about them dumping raw sewage out in AK but I can't imagine that's not going on during any cruise.

I'm still hobbling around on my broken foot (avulsion fraction, so they couldn't do much for it). So, *sympathy*

Date: 2009-11-17 03:33 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
they didn't pin the avulsion back? that's standard practice depending on the bone.

From: [identity profile] chaos-by-design.livejournal.com
No, they just told me to stay off it for a week and go in for a follow up. Maybe they couldn't pin it back or something, I don't know.

depends on the bone avulsed and how far. if it wasbarely moved then it would go back together but they should have at least givenyou the surgical shoe unless they're fairly incompetent

ext_3172: (Default)
From: [identity profile] chaos-by-design.livejournal.com
Oh yeah, they gave me the surgical shoe. I haven't been using it though because wearing sneakers actually gives me better support, and plus my feet get to be the same height as a bonus.

Date: 2009-11-17 04:25 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
yeah but that ends up delaying the healing in a major way.

Really? I had assumed that what felt better for my foot, was better for my foot. Can you explain to me why this isn't so, oh foot doctor?

Date: 2009-11-17 05:29 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
because the insoles and the soles of any shoe are designed to give and be comfortable. However they allow your foot to move. That is the last thing a healing bone needs. if it can move it will either not heal or heal badly.

the surgical shoes are very rigid (not very comfortable mind you) and act like a cast. They don't allow for movement, letting the bone heal much faster

Hunh. I tossed mine because it seemed useless to me. I wonder if a winter boot and an ace bandage would do the same thing though.

Date: 2009-11-17 05:09 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
it might. Though at this point it's probably a little late. You have to be sure not to pull the ace too tight over the area of fracture or it'll separate it

find the sturdiest shoe you can. do NOT go barefoot in the house. if it's still hurting, follow up with a podiatrist

Your 250 million dollar estate needs padded walls and floors, and cameras to capture missed moments like these.

Sorry you fell so badly though. My legs have been acting up this past week, and I've been not so good. Got stopped by a 70 something year old man today on the street: "Sweetie, it looks like you're favoring your leg a lot. Does it hurt up in here?" *lifts his leg to bus bench to point to inner calve* "I recommend you go see Dr. [Smith]..."

Yes I forgot the name of the doctor, but only because I have already been to 3 specialists, have had the MRI's and xrays and blood tests, and all we know if I have reactive arthritis. Why I get these cramps like this no one can seem to figure out. But thanks, having the same pains as a 70 something year old man before the age of 25 makes me want to go home and cry.

i'm assuming they checked vit D/Calcium levels right

It would give the manga artists some good references.

Yeah, the last specialist sent me to PT for them after they got all normal tests back. The PT did/does help. I used to get them basically every night, but this is the first batch I've had in months. I don't have any health insurance currently, but if this keeps up I may have to figure something out to try and go back in. I can barely walk right now.

try taking some calcium+D. It's not something they usually test for in younger women (i.e.under 50) yet it's like the #3 cause of cramps. You could also try stretches
