"Are you two going to sit there making googley eyes at each other or are you going to ante up?" Connor grumbled, shifting around on his seat.
"Forget it, they've been married forever and they're still like this," Dawn said, tossing her penny ante in.
Buffy glared at her sister but tossed in a penny. "We don't need commentary from you two."
"I could have gone out and had some fun but Dad talked me into Texas hold 'em," Connor replied, laying out the flop.
"Way to deal crap son," Angel huffed, eyeing his two hole cards.
"Great poker face," Connor shot back.
"Besides, you're trying to stay away from your old friends. That's why you're ringing in the New Year with us," Angel said, tossing his cards down. "Fold."
"You are such a surrender monkey," Dawn said. "I'll check."
"Check," Buffy said. "You should get the champagne ready, Angel, if you're out this hand."
Connor flipped up a two of clubs into the line of cards then bumped the sound up on the TV. They were watching the ball go down in New York, even if it would still be the old year for them for a few hours more. "I'm in for two pennies. Dad, while you're up, check those mozzarella sticks. They should be done."
"If I knew I was going to be the house slave, I wouldn't have folded."
"Let's see that last card," Dawn said and Connor dealt another two. "Angel's right, you suck."
"In or out, Dawn." Buffy grinned.
"I like my chances against you." Dawn thumbed in two more pennies.
"I'll call. Let's see your hand," Buffy said.
Dawn shrugged. "I had a queen high."
"At least I can beat that, two pair, twos and tens," Buffy laid down her cards.
"Don't reach for the pot just yet, full house, twos and threes." Connor grinned.
"You win with such low cards, unfair," Dawn whined.
"A full house is a full house." Connor raked in the pennies.
"Good going son." Angel put the platter of cheese sticks on the table.
"Pour the champagne, the count down is about to begin," Buffy said, nodding to the TV.
The wine glasses - since they didn't have any flutes - were already on the table. Angel poured, sitting next to Buffy afterward.
They counted down. The ball dropped. Glasses clinked. Angel and Buffy kissed. Dawn and Connor watched and waited then grew tired of waiting for the kiss to end.
"Angel, my sister does still need to breathe."
"Shut up, Dawn," Buffy mumbled against Angel's mouth.
"You two do know you're supposed to wait until midnight for that," Connor said. "We have a few hours here in LA, yet."
"Oh, we know." Angel smirked.
"We plan on throwing you two out and celebrating properly once it's midnight here," Buffy added.
Connor grimaced. "Nothing like starting the New Year by being scarred by the idea of my father having sex."
"I'm not waiting for that. Connor, grab those cheese sticks," Dawn got up. "We can still crash that party Faith and Spike invited us to."
"That should be scarring, too, but hopefully in a fun way." Connor stole the cheese platter and followed Dawn out.
Buffy scooped up the cards, straightening them. "Are they really gone?"
Angel cocked his head listening. "Yes."
She slid into his lap. "As far as I'm concerned, it's already midnight."
