I talked to evil_little_dog as I read it and this is that commentary with more comments inserted after the fact in italics. To be honest, I had severely mixed feelings about this one. I fully expected everyone to be saved and was glad of it. that said, the heroes of the story have seriously taken a backseat and have to rely entirely on everyone else to save them. It certainly looks like that is over next time and I hope that's the case.

Also I am very disappointed that Father didn't DO anything but sit on his throne looking constipated (somehow apropos) and trade insults and a few blows with Hohenheim. I really wanted him to do something more than he did (okay yeah he manifested a sun but...)

Okay, I know that they need someone with different alchemy to make this work. They've been making this point about the differences all along but I'm completely and utterly tired of Mei Sue to the rescue. I've lost track of how many times she's saved them now. It bothers me as a writer on several levels that the heroes we've been following for so long are now reduced to impotency and have been relying on Mei for almost a dozen episodes now

Seriously. If I didn't already love this series so much, this would have totally put me off of it. It's utterly stupid and unbelievable. At least Bradley fell down and eventually died instead of armlessly trying to carve an array but still. This just did not work for me

And on #105 thinkie thoughts, the only thing that bothered me was the sword in the mouth. I didn't even mind Mei with her floor trick, because all she was doing was redirecting Father's energy to protect them. And I want to have Hoho's babies now. Yes I do.

they'll be strange babies, that's all I'm saying. I've been on the Hoho bandwagon since the revelation of his past (it's a pretty lonely bandwagon mind you)

Then again I'm still sort of distancing myself from the latest chapters until it's all over and I can take it all in at once. I had a really hard time buying the whole "don't kill Envy" thing, and have been a bit reserved ever since then.

I was curious to know why his lips didn't split when he connected with Scar, but it still wasn't as bad as first anime, Black Knight Scar walking through Lior bleeding out both arm stumps.

Ditto. That pissed me off a lot actually. I could buy ED being that upset. But Riza picking this to make good her promise to shoot Roy? No way. i tried to steer clear of the arguments in the comm's but I was pretty loud about it on my own journal.

yeah I wanted to know that too and if we get to the stupidity of Black Knight Scar I might just BE out of here (okay not really since we're so close to the end and I'll cry when it's over)

Please do not be forgetting that anime Scar has just been shot sixteen times in the chest. And that he then has a coherent little chat with angsty Lust before he goes on his long, armless, bullet-riddled stroll. How I love to discuss this scene.

That was my thought too. He's been in the military for how long? Couldn't he just listen to everyone talk then snap his fingers at Father whenever he talks? Though I guess that would present a problem, I have no clue if Father and Hohenheim sound the same. Which would be hilarious since Ed would go off the wall if Roy almost hit Hoho. Maybe Riza will pop up and just grab Roy's hand and use it like a gun saying something like 'bang' everytime she wants him to snap his fingers.

yeah now his alchemy was inhibited just like Izumi and the brothers so maybe he'll bust out in ch 106. I've postulated (as have others) that Roy might not have been actually injured and is waiting for his moment (not expecting to have his alchemy cut off which...okay that happening makes it seem like magic and NOT science)

I was actually too busy laughing at Bradley with the sword in mouth trick. With his teeth of steel ;) he just gave the infamous 'what are you going to do, bite my kneecaps?' new perspective. I think it was only added for show, even though we've been thinking for a long time now 'ok, you're virtually indestructible, but could you please just die now?'

May getting all the action is a bit meh, but hey, all she did was turn the tide - literally. Sure, I'm disappointed in lack of Ed/Al/Izumi/Roy action, but I guess Arakawa really wanted the boys literally backing their wayward dad up. I think we should just take it all with a grain of salt and a lot of symbolism. All in all, I was still pretty pleased (with Hoho epicness) and the chapter threw me less than the last on.

You have a valid point on the hermaphrodite, though... Unless Arakawa was aiming for the body of a female bodybuilder *shudder* Well, no one has checked underneath those drapes, but I'm pretty sure no one's going to either. It seems to have been mainly done for fanservice.

But yes was there anyone NOT thinking about the Black Knight in The Holy Grail when it came to Bradley. Since he's the only one who ages, he should have been the weakest of the homunculi. Envy put up less of a fight.

Oh I was very glad to see the boys backing up Hoho.I just don't like Mei and I'm tired of seeing her rescuing everyone. Still hope Father takes her out before dying

And then wondering - ok, so homunculus current form is supposed to be intersexual now?It's just Envy looked more androgynous that this...container. I meant I was trying and failing to find hints of femininity (and wondering if there was something in biology or even mythology that I'd missed.) ^^;

I think Bradley versus Xing gang was intense, but it's sort of wound down the last couple of chapters. It's like just waiting on Bradley to just croak, because we knew he would.

You remember Pride absorbing Gluttony? I wonder what the result would have been if Greelin had likewise consumed ugly chibi!Envy.

Oh, and here's betting that the Stone RanFan found on Bradley will be used before it ever gets to Xing (sure there's a 50% chance I'm wrong, but I just like to speculate occasionally.)

I agree with disappointment in Roy's current inactivity. I think it would be delicious irony if Hoho actually survived this - oh, ok, I'll make you happy and say May got killed in the backlash because of it. Do you think there's something like alchemy induced over-exhaustion?

Yeah, I think Hoho still has potential as a character with continued survival. Now if only someone - whether it'd be Ed & Al or Izumi & Roy - could have him stave off the suicede plans. ^^; *pouts* I don't like suicidal characters (though Hoho is an improvement from the usual emo types, especially now that he's kicking ass.)

And, even though I'm very happy people of amestris did indeed survive, the alternative still has so much fic potential. ^__^

I actually totally enjoyed this chapter, although I'm very amused by your comments about Father looking constipated and what might be under his toga. I'm sure a lot of confused fangirls want to know that right now. Hoho was truly badass (and it's looking more and more like he's toast - especially his past-tense comment about having been a bad father) and Ed's gurning was priceless. I am very excited for the boys doing stuff next issue, and fully expect that blind or not, Roy will be back in the action soon.

Also, I think Scar had his other arm tattooed using his brother's research? I'm guessing Mei and Marcoh helped with that one. It was all offscreen. I'm with you on 'how did Bradley catch his sword in his mouth?' It can't top Scar in the original anime, though. That was just amazing. And the silliness was redeemed for me a bit by Ran Fan's exchange with Bradley. Nice to preserve that bit of mystery about the Bradleys' marriage and how much humanity he had left in him.

Hoho was completely badass and yes it looks like he's beginning to disintergrate, poor dude.
