These are my naturally dyed eggs. The bizarre coco colored ones are from beets but sadly I had to use tiny canned ones since Kroger had no fresh. I wonder if that will make a difference. The pretty Robin egg blue ones was from red cabbage. Here's hoping the eggs don't taste like either of those things (okay I DO like beet pickled eggs but I'm not so sure I want the sulfur of the cabbage mixing with the sulfur of the yoke).

and since I forgot yesterday, have a late Caturday pic. Believe it or not this is a different day from the last time I posted a Soul using grumpy Kanda as a pillow. Can't you just feel his enthusiasm for this.

I still think Kanda and my Dad's cat Lucy must have been separated at birth. There's something about a grumpy panda cat.

Hem hangs all over Gatz like that. It must be the little brother syndrome.

hahaha Kanda would probably welcome any sibling other than the one he has

Those colors are GORGEOUS. I hope the flavors don't seep through the shells for you. :)

We didn't color any eggs this year -- Barb doesn't like hard-boiled eggs and we've been Socially Conscious and buying cage-free brown eggs, so they wouldn't color very well, anyway. But I made no-bake cookies into "nests" and put little Cadbury chocolate eggs in them.

they seeped through faintly because i left them for many hours longer than I was supposed to but it's okay.

these are cage free from a neighbor. they're white ones. Brown eggs do dye (I did it last year) but the colors are different.

the no bake cookie nests sounds good too. LuckilY i like hard boiled eggs (and they make good snacks for diabetics so...)

How long can eggs be left out (hard boiled) before they go bad? I'm curious, and you're the person to ask that sort of thing.

I honestly don't know. mom used to hide them overnight and use them as a decoration for at least a day or two. that said mine are in the fridge already

Mom's going to feed them to the dogs, because they were left out about 24 hours (now closer to 48).

Ours was definitely out longer than that. the net says 4-5 hours

That's kinda what I figured, but.

Thanks for the intel!

I LOVE hard-boiled eggs; I make them for breakfasts and I'm not hungry a half-hour later, like I am with pastries or cereal.

Some time I'll have to try the brown eggs and see what I get -- mostly we only see the vinegar-water colors here.

exactly. those are too carb ridden and leave you hungry

it usually leaves you with interesting colors

Brown eggs dye! We used normal food coloring on them, and they came out more midnight than sky blue, but were pretty.

Well, now I'm gonna have to try it! :)

The brown eggs look like those holy stones they sell in New Age catalogs. I think the stones come from stream beds in Tibet. The blue ones are just pretty, like giant robins' eggs (though "giant robins" is a scary thought. They're dirty and greedy enough in their normal size. Chicken-sized robins would lay waste to entire townships.)

Cuddly cats, awww. Our cats would never cuddle with each other. Fight, yes, but not sleep anywhere in proximity.
