When Hoarders meet Doomsday Preppers
Feb. 21st, 2013 09:48 pmThough I think the latter IS a subset of the former. Okay so there's supposed to be this HUGE ice storm coming. NPR is saying 2-3 inches of ice for my area. Last time this happened, I lost power for a week and nearly died of carbon monoxide poisoning. Frankly it didn't look bad out but I do know the Midwest is getting a snowy beat down. I know if I don't go prep for this I WILL get the ice. If I DO prep, it'll never happen just like that other huge storm this fall.
So, even though this is the longest day I have (5 hours of nonstop talking) I run to Jackson. Have I mentioned I'm a good prepper? If you're ever in SE Ohio and disaster strikes, I'm who you want to be with. I have candles galore, more blankets (and books to while away the day) than is sane. I have sheets so thick and heavy you barely NEED the blanket.
I got water by the gallon in case of line breakage. If not used in the storm, they go to the office for my tea pot (the water there is so bad I have solid chunks of calcium in my tea even using a filter!). I bought breads and bannanas for my PB& B sandwiches. I have cinnamon rolls (will go to the office to be shared in case of no storm), crackers and triskets (will go to the wine party otherwise), pop tarts (don't really need to be cooked), frosted mini wheats, made 2 soups, boiled eggs, cooked hot dogs, got chicken.
and the kid bagging all this goes, 'I don't understand why people do this? If the power goes out, the food in the fridge won't be cold any more.'
I just look at him and in my teacher voice remind him that it is winter and the food could be put in plastic storage containers and set outside because it's 20 degrees out. I'm not quite sure he got it.
My talk for tomorrow (if it happens) is WAY too long. I thought they said 40-60 minutes. It's 20. Oops. Well i'll go until then and be happy. I'm not too happy no one is coming. Now three of my friends DO have legitimate excuses but L, once again, will not go 5 minutes out of her way. I'm getting tired of the fact that if it's not what she wants to do it doesn't get done. I drive just as far to see her plays. she suggested maybe I could do it for everyone (including those out of town and couldn't make it) fair enough but went on to say, you know not in Jackson. Well you know what, that's where I live so if I do, then that's where I'll do it. Just because of that. I don't know. Am I unreasonable?
Declutter Day 34 item tossed-Keyboard box why kept -kept in case I needed to send back why tossed-Not sending it back, been here for months

And no, you're not unreasonable.

Date: 2013-02-22 04:01 am (UTC)yeah I know what you mean. (my uncle asked me that when I was living down there and he had gone golfing. He was wondering about FL)
I didn't really think I was. It's getting worse over the years. And I don't see why I need to put up with that
