Went to see Grandma today
Jun. 3rd, 2013 09:59 pmShe was vaguely interested in me and my trip. Not too much since you know, not about her, but she was amused about mom getting lost in the casino.
We had to go down to Prejudice Girl's grandmother's place as the woman had a bowel resection secondary to cancer (she's also 90). Aunt S2 lives there and she doesn't like her niece any more than I do. Ugh. thank god she's leaving so I don't have to see her again.
Today was the last day of the seminar portion of the conference. It was very good. They even got me excited about going to Jacksonville next year. They have the Wounded Warrior Project there, and I want to see that. I found the molecular targeting cancer treatments fascinating.
I got to go to a 2 hour luncheon with Pearson publishing (I'll be getting 250$ for this). I like this very visual book. I don't think it'll be a good one for my pre meds but for my English-poor, reading challenged nurses it'll be good. I showed them to mom and she could follow it, which is promising.
I did skip the last lecture. I couldn't figure out what it was from the title. I couldn't decipher the blurb. I said screw it and met up with Mom. We planned on going out to the dolphin habitat. Then I balked at the 20$ price tag AND the huge-ass line. We found where I need to be for the bus tomorrow before freaking 7 AM then we went gambling. I lost triple that 20 dollars in a half hour. Suddenly, the dolphins were looking better. Then just at the last moment, I won back all that and made money so yay.
I went back to the con for the door prizes. I didn't win any, Mom and I met back up and we went to Madame Toussand's. It's getting really pricey, but we had coupons. It is fun and the artistry is truly amazing. I think for pure grandeur, you can't beat the Venetian. Mom wouldn't go for the Tao (well, it is insanely pricey.) She likes Chinese so we went to Noodles. She was shocked I could remember where it was exactly after 6 years. (I can be very good with directions). Sadly, she hated her meal (I told her to send it back, it was watery, but she wouldn't. She'd bitch to me, mind you). She had the Dan Dan noodles. I had the Ba Bao, shrimp, tofu and spicy shrimp sauce. It was delicious.
We stopped at Casino Royale because they were giving out 50$ free of slot play. The catch it was only on certain machines and even after I doubled that because it wasn't a jackpot, I couldn't cash out. Oh well. We did get a buy one get one free Ben & Jerry's. 7.50 for a freaking ice cream cone. Yikes. We people watched between there and Harrah's then saw people queuing up in front of the Mirage and realized the volcano was about to go off. We went to the fencing on our side, but not until after I watched a homeless man dig a Ben & Jerry's mostly uneaten cone out of the trash and walk off with it (which makes you feel depressed). It's a lot of fun watching the volcano.
We went back to Harrah's where I still have my original 20$ from 2 days ago (I'm doing well in Harrah's) well done to 18$. On Mustang's Money, flaming horses (ha, oh Roy), I got up to 40$ then lost it down to 2 dollars when I hit on Triton's Gold so I'm back up to 50$ as of now. Mom's doing even better. I was also approached by some old guy who sits beside me and shows me a diamond ring (so he says) and wants me to buy it. Go. Away.
We got up to the room in time for another volcano eruption. I pulled the curtain back so Mom could see, and she says, look there IS a balcony. I thought the clerk said there was. You couldn't even tell by looking. The so-called balcony was barely 18 inches wide. You can just stand on the cement and look over the roof HAVC duct work but it DOES have a good view of the volcano. We watched it two more times.
Heading off now. I have to get up at 5 AM to get ready in time to get the bus to the workshops.
I would kill for this muscle man outfit
This has synthetic flesh that is the same water content and feel. it must stay in water when not in use and can actually be infected. It's amazing and also 40K
Me and Elvis
Bert, Ernie and Elmo. There were tons of people in costume but I didn't know it at the time
outside the mirage
Inside the Mirage
Me at the Venetian
At the Wax Museum
