Poor repayment
Jun. 21st, 2013 11:02 pmKanda dug the last two baby mice out of the fireplace today, digging into the insulation in there (it's blocked off because there's issues with the chimney). They had already passed on (probably yesterday when starvation made the other two come out). But since he was filled with fiberglass bits, someone had to be bathed copiously. He's still not looking at me.
Speaking of poor repayment, even if you own a fourth of something with your siblings and one of you die, you STILL have to pay inheritance tax in most states. My aunt and my mother have been telling Aunt S2's family this for SEVEN years. Now her mom is really since and the lawyer went off the wall when she learned they never paid it. Want to bet on how much penality will be part of this?
Between them and the death of my friend (and
evil_little_dog and
silvrethorn's) we're learning about inheritance law and the importance of a freaking will. My god, get a proper will. I need to.I lost mine and I'm no longer where I was then so it's time to work it up. Looking into life insurance isn't so bad. It cost 7K to bury Aunt S1 and she had NO viewing and was only laid out in the church, NOT the funeral home and they wanted a good part of that up front.
And I am both proud of myself and frustrated with myself writing wise. h click here to find out more
Odd thing, my parents were approached by two reports from the BBC (the woman was from Wales) who were doing candid, off the cuff polls about what America should do about Syria when they were done in VA on wednesday.

Yeah, I saw on FB that the guy who was supposed to be executor got some stuff from Zog's house via the mail today; a couple of pieces of Zog's art photography.

Date: 2013-06-22 08:41 am (UTC)Cremation for me--$2000 or so. Or a pauper's grave. I really don't care.

Date: 2013-06-22 02:24 pm (UTC)donating to science is the cheapest way if it doesn't freak you out. cremation is the final end. BUT what pisses me off about this is those bodies are sold to medical schools at high cost. Why none of that goes to the family is beyond me (like 100K which is probably all going to the funeral home and whatever middle man there is)

Date: 2013-06-22 01:16 pm (UTC)I have a will, but I probably need to revise it.
And the government really needs to get its greedy paws out of everyone's back pocket. As the Beatles said, they'll take the pennies from a dead man's eyes.

Date: 2013-06-22 01:56 pm (UTC)and, yeah, great advice on wills. barry and I are going to a real lawyer and drawing up a will this month, before we do anything else. since his parents passed, we have laid witness to some pretty scary, sad shit. we want everything spelled out clearly and legally for our childless estate - because our dogs and cat will need lots of organization if they are to be ok in the event of both of our deaths or incapacitation. talk about shit that wakes me up in the middle of the night...
and funerals are ridiculously expensive. barry is in the business, and he says their mark ups are close to 300%. they have you by the short hairs and want to live like kings... but trust me when I tell you they don't pay their people like kings.

yeah I know. You and Barry make the fourth morticians I know. The rest are lucky enough to own the business and yeah, live like kings is right. I was going to get into it when I got hurt but saw the job boards were like the podiatry ones. 100 people begging for work and no work to be had
