My whole place smells like chili
Oct. 27th, 2013 11:08 pmAnd it will tomorrow too. On Wed. my math/science club has their annual chili and hot dog fundraiser. I'm donating the chili. Today I made Cincinnati chili and tomorrow will be vegetarian chili.
And since I've not done this nearly all year have a recipe.
{Take the 100 Things challenge: 100 (mostly diabetic) recipes!}
Cincinnati Style Chili
• 2 lbs ground meat
• 1 medium onion, chopped finely
• 4 cloves garlic or 2 teaspoons garlic powder
• 3 T chili powder (depending upon the heat of the powder and your taste)
• 1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
• 2 teaspoons cinnamon
• 1 T paprika
• 1 T Worcestershire Sauce.
• 1 oz unsweetened chocolate
• 2 bay leaves
2 (10.5 ounce) cans beef broth
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
• 1 T red wine vinegar (actually I would start with less and work up to your preference)
Traditionally this was made with boiled beef that was then shredded and turned paste-like. I have no patience for that. Ground beef (or whatever ground meat you want) is easier. Brown the onions in a little vegetable oil for about 5-6 minutes, then add in beef in batches if need be to make sure it all browns up. (you might have to drain it a bit if it's too oily once the fat renders).
Add chili powder and other spices, bay leaf, chocolate, beef broth, tomato sauce, vinegar, and red pepper. Stir to mix well. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 1 1/2 - 2 hours. To get the texture closer to the original recipe, I find stirring often helps to break up all the clumps.
Other than I spent the whole afternoon relistening to a two hour lecture to make sure I was typing up the minutes right. OMG I'm pretty sure this is hell.
Kanda is He didn't eat last night. Sometimes he does that but he hasn't eaten at all in nearly 2 days and it's been at least 2 days since I cleaned the litter and there are no poos. I finally just found the hair ball medicine. I'll be giving him a few doses of that to see if things shake loose before taking him to the bet.
So now I have all these stupid scenes for my novella and trying to figure out where they go is a bitch mother, especially since I'm trying to avoid the 5 Victor interviews a suspect scenes lining up back to back with nothing in between. Gah I might have to write more. shoot me.
bah, tired. As good as I slept friday night (the first good sleep in weeks) that's how bad I slept last night and some idiot was blowing their horn way too early this morning
