Like today. It SNOWED a lot for this area last night, over 3 inches and when I was getting ready at 8 Am it was still coming down with high winds. Everyone canceled classes but my school. I went out to start the car. Ten minutes later when I left I couldn't even see my tracks. The road by the apartment was pure unmarred white. If I didn't know it was a road I'd have thought it pure field. I only have a few hundred feet to go before I'm on the highway. It wasn't PLOWED. At ALL. No salt, no cinder, no attempt to clean it. When I lived in WI I wouldn't even blink at 3 inches of snow because they CLEAN the roads. Here, we're poor. I know that. I understand the no salt but seriously we don't have gas money for the plow?

I get to work. My STUDENTS come. I'm shocked.I get to the last 10 minutes of class, one that i have to repeat in the afternoon and they CLOSE the school. Great. All the faculty is here. All the students are here (this is a commuter school) and it's no longer snowing. So now that the roads are clear and it's all over, you're closing. Oh great. Now I have to cancel thursday morning's class so I don't have them a day ahead of the other class. Bangs head hard.

But I did get my wish. I wanted it to snow enough to cancel my exercise class because my shoulder hurt and I didn't want to feel guilty about not going.

Here's the bridge I have to fly over to get up the hill to the highway every day.

I'm sure by now it's obvious I have depression. I'm allergic to almost all the modern anti-depressants which leaves me dealing with this on my own. Here is Wil Wheaton on depression and it's an excellent article on what it's like.

The Wil Wheaton article is a good read. Ironic as yesterday a friend and I were talking about how we pretty much felt like what Wil had been going through.

It is. I think a lot of us can relate to that article

I thought the Wheaton article was excellent.

The snow here is bad - it's been coming down all day. Lucky me I can work from home. Unlucky me, it meant I had to cancel shoulder therapy. I first tried to go back in early December, I still haven't made it.

I do too

Ugh to that. Hope you get there soon (and if there is any home kind of things you want to know about shoulders, I might be able to suggest some since I had to do almost all my own PT)

Home exercises would be great.

In fact, assuming I make it on Thursday (which is now unlikely since I was planning to go for blood work tomorrow and I think the roads will still be crap) I was going to ask my therapist to make sure most of the exercises I can do at home also.

no problem if the therapist is less than helpful or you can't make it, let me know what's going on. My brother is a PT and I can always ask him for things I'm not sure of.

Also if you make it, you might ask the PT for take home therabands or something like it

Maybe once things settle down I can see someone about cognitive therapy. The antidepressants work for me, kinda, but they don't make it go away. They make it bearable. I know stress and anxiety really trigger it.

We need more policemen like that. :-)

Gettysburg might be a nice place... They might have snowplows.

I've been to cognitive therapy but my insurance doesn't much cover it. I've been dealing with this for 30 years now. I've become pretty expert at dealing. Like I said to others, i wasn't very clear in my post. I'm fine right now. I just wanted to share Wil's post.

we do need more cops like that

Gettysburg might.

That was really dumb what your school did, but it sounds like something stupid the school district I'm in would do. XD You're als9o lucky the storm didn't hit you so hard, it looks like we got about a foot of snow out of it. XD

LOVE pic of the bridge! It looks like the kind of bridge trolls would live under. ;p

I read Wil's article & that's exactly what it's like. I hope you feel better.*huggles* He sounds like he is from what I read there. I think just talking about it helps too.

I Loved the cop & kid article too. It's nice hearing about something good. :D

It was. I guess what happened was the county declared a level 1 emergency so they had to close but way to do it AFTER the fact. Yewotch that's a lot of snow.

thanks, actually I'm not doing bad at all right now. Winter is my time of the year. I just wanted mostly to pass on that article.

Isn't that a troll bridge if ever there was one?

Isn't it though? that's why I like reblogging happy things. The media is so tragedy oriented

*nods* That makes no sense, but yeah. XD *nods* yup! There might be more coming this weekend... I think? XD

You're welcome! That's good to hear.:D I love winter too! Everything looks so beautiful covered in snow! :D *nods*

Oh yeah! :D

*nods* yeah! It's shame too. *sighs*

Yeah that's why I told my anime group I'm NOT joining them in Columbus (some 100 miles away) this weekend for the con (I prefer the april one any how) but i told them I had work to do which is not a lie.

I agree. I feel good in the cold too.

again agreed. I want happy news too

Sorry for the late reply. I just found it. ^^;

*nods* Yeah, it's better not to have risked driving in the bad weather.

*nods*

Yeah... :D

yesterday when I would have had to drive was absolutely horrid. There was a snow emergency so I'm glad I stayed tucked in working on my novel promotion.

WOW! It's good you stayed home. That's important too, so it all worked out in the end. :D

Oh this is about the only time of year I don't get that depressed. Sunlight depresses the hell out of me. It's summer that's horrible. I'm wired very different. Kinda thought I was alone until I found a few LJ friends that are the same way. I keep the curtains closed just to keep the light off me. I'm not sure why the suprachiasmatic nuclei and pineal gland in us process things so differently but it does.

thanks

I've felt your lack-of-snow-removal pain. During the term of one of the previous college prez (like, for more than 20 years), snow removal and de-icing was a joke. literally. Very, very, unsafe. I bought cleats!!

Interesting bridge.

::hugs:: why? because we're friends.

especially where you are. You get WAY more snow than us (it's only an issue here because they do diddly)

that's one word for the bridge

thanks for the hugs

Fortunately, the snow here isn't very deep, and most of it melted off of Connor Grey, so I'll be able to get out later today.

I'm proud of your students for coming in.

That's very sweet of the officer.

well that's good. I have an iceberg that could take down the titanic jammed up under Naru's wheels which is making driving fun and noisy.

I'm still a bit stunned by that

it was and a little sad that the kid automatically assumed he was in trouble

Yeah, there were icicles when I went out earlier, but I kicked them off.

I would be, too, but, hey, you got some learnin' in? Hopefully?

Hey, even when I'm walking the dogs and a cop pulls up, I assume I've done something wrong.

Oh god, your school /).(\ reminds me of the good old days when they'd send out a message that a lecture was cancelled...five minutes before it was due to start and when we'd already all be in the classroom.

Also! I wanted to let you know I got your card, it's lovely, thank you so much! I haven't really been able to send out cards the last couple of years but it always means so very much to me to receive them! :)

Yeah that's very helpful. Some faculty didn't know there was a 2 hour delay today (it was on the website so that's on them)

No problem. glad you got it. I enjoy sending them out.
