Mistakes were made
Feb. 18th, 2016 09:37 pmI should have put up with the itchy allergic rash because my knee was NOT happy to be rubbed by pants. Tomorrow I will cover it because my scrubs are unforgiving.
Happy Birthday to
seta_suzume! Hope it was a great day. My birthday gift leaves something to be desired...
Ever have a day where you're cruising along fine and suddenly it's like someone pulled out your plug? that's me today.
I'm so tempted to write this! I already know she was a hippie and her twins are Storm and Star and her daughter also had twins. Probably someone should stop me....
Still no closer to figuring out where I want to go on my first real non-work related vacation in 8 years. Washington? Canada? I really want to go back to the UK or Italy but I know that's unlikely.
Honestly I don't care one way or the other about the genders of the characters I'm reading about. I do, however, mind THIS! I've read the first few in this series and liked it well enough but I'm annoyed to see Mercy forever depicted with barely there shirts. Almost every time I see an UF with a female protagonist they look like this (fantasy books too, sort of the Comic Book Heroine syndrome). This is of course a long time ongoing issue but you'd think as much as it's been MOCKED over the last several years they'd catch on. I'm not entirely sure Briggs herself has much control over it. Many authors have less cover control than you'd think. Sigh.

Sex sells.

Me, too. I wanted to have this resolved at this point.

Date: 2016-02-21 01:35 am (UTC)Kanda, we know better.
Speaking of kitties, the new African American neighbors of Mom were out on their porch today and saw me with the dogs. They called out a warning, "Watch out for that cat, she eats dogs." And this adorable little black kitten ran across the road to try to get Rogue and Vinnie to play with her. She chased the other neighbor's GSD around.

Date: 2016-02-21 03:25 am (UTC)She's adorable. I hope she's actually theirs. She was sitting on their porch with them. She's mostly black with a speck of white on her side and a bushy tail.

Date: 2016-02-20 12:40 am (UTC)And on the sexy theme – yeah... scantily clad ladies wind me up no end. I like sword-wealding heroines, with stories that have some vague semblance of authenticity. There is not a woman in the world who would go into battle wearing nothing but a pair of panties and a handkerchief over her boobs.
Which reminds me – I read something in a book recently that I believe to be incorrect. But I'm not a doctor so I could be wrong. Can I run it past you? It's something really simple but it's a little gross...

Date: 2016-02-20 01:39 am (UTC)Yeah exactly and even in the books, the women usually aren't running around half naked, just on the covers.
sure run it past me.

Date: 2016-02-20 01:56 am (UTC)In the world of the book I read, some people have special powers – and those that do, have strange coloured eyes. The parents of the girl in the story wanted to hide her ability so they stitched up her eyes (!) to hide the colour. The way that any parent would.... ignoring the morality of that, when they cut the stitches, years later, the girl could see perfectly. My question is – surely, if the eyes were stitched closed, wouldn't they heal up? You know, seal together? I've tried googling the answer but couldn't get anything close to what I wanted.
I know I've read that some primitive tribes that don't change their clothes from one month to the next find the skin growing into the fabric, but I'm not sure about eyelids. I know this isn't quite your area of expertise but, what do you think?

Date: 2016-02-20 02:04 am (UTC)hmm honestly I don't know. I'd want to say no since the wounds wouldn't be where the eye lids are resting together but it sounds like an excellent way to incapitate the eyelid muscles and blind the person because that can happen.

Date: 2016-02-20 02:15 am (UTC)Anyway, thanks for your input. I've been trying to decide whether to ask you or not! I'd never heard of the scenario you suggested, but it would make sense.
Right, off to bed with me. Its gone 2am …

Date: 2016-02-20 02:55 am (UTC)2 AM my usual bed time which is sucking for me since I have a 6 AM start time this semester and I have so much trouble falling asleep earlier

Date: 2016-02-20 10:39 pm (UTC)Yeah, I'm a bit of a night bird. 2 am is about average for me. I've tried going to bed earlier but like you, I just can't sleep. I lie there, getting more and more annoyed, and usually end up staying awake later than if I'd gone to bed at a normal time!

Date: 2016-02-21 12:56 am (UTC)and yes I'm rather glad no one is running around sewing down eyelids
yep, that's how it goes here too
