BIGFOOT!

So I decided to go to a Bigfoot talk at my local library and got some of my friends to go. We made a night of it. Went to Arch & Eddie's for dinner, had an Arrogant Bastard (I think Stone changed the brewing recipe. I don't remember it being this bitter). I was late because I also did my laundry and first the one washer quit filling probably the moment I was out the door and in the library. I had to rewash it and then it didn't drain so everything was sopping wet (You can't set these to just spin) so I had to put it in the dryer twice (I had to go back after dinner and the owner did give me back my money) and I STILL had to hang everything up here.

The talk was good but disorganized. Naturally I bought one of his books at more money than is smart. What I didn't like (and my friends commented too) that for someone who claims he's done dozens of these talks (and certainly many in this area) why does his powerpoint have like 300 slides and his partner shows it in slideshow format so she can race up and down and try to match the pictures to what he's talking about? Have a freaking outline man.

Apparently 2 1/2 hours north of me (literally where I get on I-70 via I-77) is Bigfoot central. Also many sightings here in Jackson (including one guy I think was making the presenter nervous because he was looking for stories and this guy was a wee bit out there.)

While I've never heard this
or this
I have seen these. in Wisconsin. Now I can say I've seen Bigfoot evidence (to be honest I'm not entirely sold on Bigfoot but whatever).

As if to make up for the shitty laundry experience I learned I won the library's Blind Date contest and got a literal basket of books (last time I won I just got one!)

I have Scents and Sensibility (mystery), The Last Boleyn (historical) The Irish Princess (historical), The Testing (YA dystopia) Bzrk (SF, YA) Inhuman (you guessed it, YA dystopia) The Boundless (historical YA)

I think the mystery and Boundless are the two I'm most looking forward to and the least to the two Karen Harper historicals (though I am SO dystopia-ed out it's not funny).

I got a response back from the publishing house and not one I was hoping for. They said as of last month they're no longer transferring previously published stories into the non-romance line and only taking new. While I understand you want NEW stuff in a new line, it really makes no sense not to put something so obviously misplaced somewhere it might do better. So I'm very disappointed needless to say. I did ask about Blood Red Roulette because I'm not sure it belongs in romance and was told they are now reading for all three lines at once and determining which it fits into better. I hope THAT is a new thing too because if they were doing that last year someone dropped the ball on SoS and not just me.

Being in the chair for an hour at the library made my hip hurt so ungodly much that my dreams of flying anywhere overseas right now have died a terrible death. Weeps.

Chet and Bernie! I love those books.

So...the tripod-y thing of tree limbs is what, a hut without covering? And Bigfoot sounds like a Artoo Deetoo run through a humanizing sound mix.

I don't like hearing you can't fly for long distances.

Also not happy about the response to SotS.

They're very fun, I think. I haven't read that one yet because I'm about 2-3 novels behind at this point.

My thoughts while listening, "Where have I heard this before...? What does that sound like...? Artoo! It sounds like Artoo!"

It definitely sucks rocks. On both counts.

Well book 8 isn't the place to start but what the heck

ahahaha. Artoo

It does but points to my comment to dragonydreams. i just learned Samhain which was THE biggest name in erotica is going out of business. I think they're terrified that by using 'old' stuff no one will be interested in the line.

They're not that hard to follow.

Artoo.

That doesn't bode well if two of the biggest names went out of business.

that's the good thing about mysteries, you can pretty much pick up wherever.

No, Amber Allure and Samhain fell within months of each other. And frankly every time I pick up a self pub book it blows so I might be buying a lot less

Self-pubbing is a gamble regarding those books; you know that.

...sheesh, non-self pubbing is sometimes a gamble.

it's all one big crap shoot but at least with indie publishing there are editors.

self publishing either you hire an editor at no small expense or you pray for friends who can actually beta and you've seen how hard it is to FIND one. I'm lucky to have you

Tell it to that book I read that supposedly sold to two different publishing houses and still had so many mistakes in it I wanted a red pen to slash out whole sections with the words, "Is this necessary if we're not in a D&D game?"

Thanks. I'm glad I can be of help!

And imagine how bad it would have been without an editor?

Yeah I have nothing for that. I've read things I had to double check to see if it was self pubbed or someone had fucked up this badly in editing. There was one I was SURE was actually accidentally published first draft

I was thinking as I read it, "You played lots and lots of D&D and it inspired this story, didn't it? DIDN'T IT?" I don't care that you went 35.7 meters down this one hall and there were ten doors you couldn't unlock. YOU'RE WASTING MY TIME. Tell me when you find something.

oh god that last Sue Grafton I read did that. I went on a 3 mile run at 745 AM and got home at 9:10 and took a shower. OMFG stop.

...did it go on for about 20 pages? I could swear it was at least a chapter, maybe two.

Congrats on winning all the books.

Sorry the publishing house isn't doing what's best for selling the book. That seems backwards from a business standpoint.

I don't get the bigfoot fascination, but I had a boss who was really into it.

thanks

It does but I think they're afraid of getting a rap for just having 'old' books. Two major erotica companies just went out of business. I think they want to keep things fresh

Honestly I don't get the bigfoot fascination but eh, it was something to do

Nice stack of books! Hopefully, several turn out to be winners.

I hope your publisher does better by you in the future. Not transferring a mis-labeled story makes no sense to me.

Not good news about the hip. Is there anything that can be done?

I hope so. I'm a little leery of all the dystopias but it's free so can't complain.

I just posted my thoughts on why the publisher might be doing that. I think at this point it's sending up the white flag on that one.

I've two more injections I have to have and all the PT in the world but it's arthritis so really the only things we can do is to strength the muscle and eventually replace it.
