Writerly Ways
Dec. 31st, 2012 06:26 pmThe last of 2012. I am very happy with the way this year turned out. I sold a novella The Darkest Midnight in December and a short story,Peace in the Valley (both of which I'm glad to trade for reviews).
I finished my novel Splinters of Silver and Cold Iron and sent it to the Harper Voyager open call. I doubt highly that it will be picked up but it'll be another month before I know for sure.
I finished my novel Kept Tears and several people are looking it over now. I hope to be able to send it to the publisher soon.
I finished camp nano (Vampires in Vegas) & regular nano (Soldiers of the Sun)
I wrote a total of
218417 / 215000 words. 102% done!
This is amazing to me. This is JUST original fiction. I don't keep a fanfic word count. Part of those words is the one sale.
My plans for writing in 2013 is to work on/finish the following stories
Soldiers of the Sun (this year’s nano)
54611 / 65000 words. 84% done!
Steampunk short story (time to start researching the Hudson Valley of the late 1800’s, especially Beacon and Hyde Park, boy I miss them) – 0
Vampires in Vegas
31325 / 65000 words. 48% done!
Beneath the Torn Sky
61415 / 75000 words. 82% done!
Voluntary Nightmare
43562 / 75000 words. 58% done!
Yes there will be more to write. I'm STILL on the last chapter of Until the Ice Breaks I have no idea why I have yet to finish it. I would also like to work on Riding with Strangers maybe that will be the camp nano this year.
I plan to write 125K to start. I do well with goals. I've never not gotten what I needed that way. That is why Nano is so good for me. I've rarely had to scrap anything from nano and without the word count goal, I would probably never do a thing.

findyourwords is still doing sign ups. It's just an accountability site. You set your yearly word count goal and it keeps you on track if for no other reason than you don't want to show up and say 'I wrote nothing this week.'
If anyone wants ON the original fiction filter, now is the time (ditto if you'd like off) just ask.
Now here's a disturbing tidbit that came across my author's list. Goodreads giveaways have MANY erotic books both het and gay. I had considered doing a giveaway if/when my novels are picked up. The author in question was concerned that the winner was under 18 so she contacted Goodreads. Here is their response
"I think you might misunderstand a bit about how winners are selected. We select the winners at our discretion and you have to send the books. You are welcome to put a disclaimer at the top of the giveaway description (18+ material) but once someone enters to win the giveaway they are elegible to win regardless of age. After the winners are selected you must send them the books."
They refused to accept her reasoning that it is ILLEGAL to send erotic books to minors. I think that I might not be doing a giveaway for any of the erotic novels.
