writerly ways
Oct. 16th, 2022 10:02 pmI'm reading something that is using the let's not communicate trope and it's exhausting me. I don't know about you but I really hate the creation of drama by having the characters NOT communicating information that normal people would or at least should. Buffyverse was notorious for this. Sometimes it worked because it was done for reasons like maliciously not telling Buffy Willow was returning Angel's soul (thanks Xander) to the 1001 times they just didn't tell someone something to create drama that wouldn't otherwise exist (like not having Connor told or at least brought to witness Cordy going evil).
To me this is just lazy storytelling. I find it off putting. the book I'm reading looks like it's going to resolve this trope quickly or at least I hope so because I'd hate this be the reason I toss it aside.
Since the people who responded to the open call issue were split 50/50 I'll continue them for now.
