cornerofmadnessIt was so black my solar panel Christmas lights couldn't even charge up. It rained all day. Hard. The creek is out and under my bedroom again. Nothing like waterfront property. You just know the underpinnings of this place are rotting. I wanted to leave for PA tomorrow but honestly I wasn't well today (combination of sleeplessness, depression, GERD, arthritis and who knows what the fuck because I felt like I was half dead this morning). I have my edits done for the writing group, just need to type them in. I got some stuff into the SUV to travel, some more gifts wrapped and boxed. Tomorow I want to clean some things. It will still be a disaster here but it will be at least improved. I wish I could pack up more of the vehicle but I'm likely to be robbed so can't. I ordered the last few gifts then brother (who I've been asking for a Christmas list from since Sept) sends me two things. Mom was rolling her eyes so hard at that I could hear them over the phone.
I should have been reading the first Miss Fisher mystery so I can give it to mom for the holiday (yes I read them first, I'm bad) but instead I was reading some old fanfic, the Box of Crayon series I wrote in part with Chris G_D and I think either I made a weird mental leap or I'm missing one. That aside, I was shocked that I used something back then that I planned to use in the sequel to Hyperion's Son because of course now that I'm back into this fandom, there will be one. I had Connor as having borderline personality disorder. I plan to explore that much further this time because it would explain a lot about him (and Faith for that matter).
I know I'm a bit odd. I actually loved the dynamics between Angel and Connor and loved the character. Don't get me wrong, I thought a good chunk of season 4 was stupid AF with plot holes you could do donuts inside of while driving an 18 wheeler but I liked the underlying relationship because it was damaged and interesting (and frankly I still believe some of the best acting David Boreanaz ever did was up against Vincent Kartheiser). I would LOVE to know what the original plan was for Connor because we all know it wasn't Jasmine. Now there's a Buffyverse novel I'd like to see (since we know they're writing more of them now). I would like to see the original plan for S4 done up as a what if universe or something. Seriously. I always thought Connor got knocked a bit too hard by fans (complicated by the fact that SO MANY of them told me to my face how awful he was but Andrew, the rapist and murderer was okay because he was 'funny' but this is not the time for me to go into that horrible misogynistic, rape culture character study).

This one is hard! I don't know. Hell I've read my own fanfic with no clue it's mine (Because my memory these days is akin to Dorrie the fish. I blame the diabetes meds). Maybe because someone's eyes are always doing stuff or they're smiling like an idiot thru half of it? It has Connor in it? Seriously I have no clue how'd you'd guess it was mine. You tell me.
And since I was talking about Connor and I was too sick today to do much but sit here, I plucked several good Connor vids from youtube and I want to share them. I'll put the faves at the top.
Okay this one is Baby Connor (who I loathed coincidentally) and teen Connor but this one is SO adorable because I could totally see me singing this song to my kid if I had one. (also I love Voltaire)
And ditto this song in terms of relationship and being on the soundtrack (before I even knew someone had vidded it)
This one is very well done technically (and please explain why this is one of my favorite work out songs because it's really not a good song)
Another one that's just very well done and a very apropos song (because prodigal works)
Technically Darla, technically a love song but it does work here.
I remember this one from the long past, probably one of the first fan vids for Connor I remember, this and one that was Welcome to the Jungle (which I can not longer find)
"you tried to love me.. at least i think you did.." - one of the saddest lines on Angel
followed in sadness by this line "you don't just get half a miracle, do you?"

It was waiting as a draft on AO3 while it was being beta'd, but then I just hit post and I don't quite feel like deleting and re-posting later ... the tags on AO3 are so fiddly. I guess I'll just update that chapter once it comes back (she gave me the thumbs up on it and was just combing for grammar and what have you). Debating whether to post it here the same way or to wait for the finished draft? Meh.

Eh, I go back and edit crap there ALL the time. Seriously I've spotted MORE errors in Hyperion's Son but I'm letting that sit for a while because there's probably even more. I just spotted a word choice error in an FMA story someone left kudos on (and I didn't recognize the title so I went to look at it) about Al and Roy scaring Ed and Winry's kids
I'll be in Pittsburgh to just after the first. classes begin on the 7th so I'll have to be back on the 4th

It's still pouring, I'm sure my basement is underwater. I can't get down there with the crutches (no railing, painted wood stairs with several loose boards ... I guess I should get that fixed up after all this.

I'm still trying to figure out why two (and probably more) stories were removed. I removed the ones with sex but I know two are gone that didn't have sex and that's disturbing. Take down notices should have happend.
Ugh, pouring here. the creeks under my bedroom but having water in the basement is bad. Hope it's not too bad. (and yeah at least nail in teh board I guess)

I think most of my readable fanfic has made it's way to AO3 over the years. I'm sure there are tons of pieces scattered around LJ for various comms and kinkmemes that I haven't dug out and put anywhere.

Date: 2018-12-16 09:17 pm (UTC)I have been VERY slow to transition things to AO3 and still post both places mostly because I STILL get far more comments at FFN than Ao3 but that's slowly changing. Oh god, all the stories on the fma prompt comms, they're nowhere else but there. I'd need to take a year off to transition the lot, I swear. And it's KILLING me that I've lost so many stories, especially the Buffy ones because I loved a lot of them.
