TV Thoughts

Been a long time since I've actually got to see TV beyond NBC. I've now seen two episodes of House. The first one had me rolling my eyes at the thought of a hospital administrator willingly and knowingly allowing House to detox AND work at the same time (can you say lawsuit?) but I was impressed with the accuracy of it. The second episode impressed me more. I think I like it though it brings back flashbacks of working for assholes like House when I was a medical resident. Still, he's rather funny from a distance and like I said, nice accuracy. That's why I never usually watch a lot of medical (or forensic) shows, too inaccurate for works (CSI springs painfully to mind, not to mention dressing all their professional women like hookers, yeah I'm looking at you too Crossing Jordan).

Saw the new thing, Empire, not sure if I like it. Octavius Caesar is rather dumb or young or is that the same thing? He looks like Tom Welling.

Saw the promo for Alyson Hannigan's new thing and couldn't be more disinterested. However, I KNOW what David B. is doing and it looks like they're going to ruin it. It's based on Temperance Brennan, a lady doctor, forensic anthropologist, from Kathy Reichs mystery novels. Dr Reichs is a forensic antrhopologist and brings a lot of authority to her work however, I've stopped buying the novels because a) she overuses the hook of 'if only I knew then what I know now. I mean it's in every chapter of the last one I read and b) occasionally she has Temperance doing something moronic to put her in peril and needing rescue. Seriously when she was working and someone put human eyes on the dashboard of HER car and she was friends with the police already would she NOT tell them like her character didn't. It's supposed to be set in Montreal (and partially in North Carolina). However, the clips I saw of DB and the star of the show (who actually isn't DB just so you know. He's more a co-star) looks like they've made too many changes to the character from the get go. But, I'll watch it.

Night Stalker. Need I say more? I loved Kolchak as a kid. I can't wait to see it again. I do see (as Flippy said) a heavy supernatural emphasis in this year's line up.

Angie Harmon, one of my favorite assistant D.A.'s from Law and Order is on a new show called Inconceivable, about working in a fertility clinic. It's kinda inconceivable to me how they managed to pitch a show about watching infertile women trying to get pregnant.

See, it's better if I'm kept away from the tv probably.

Boreanaz's new show doesn't appeal to me at all....and his character's name is terrible. I'd have rather have seen him in something "grittier", but can you believe he doesn't consult me on his career choices?! ;)

If they could guarantee me that he would occasionally be unclothed, I wouldn't care what he was appearing in.

well if he's in the role of the character I think he is, there is sexual tension with the lead. There might be nudity. We can hope

what's his name (just to see if they've changed it from the book). DB tends to have the worst taste in roles. Still, I like the books but even at that I'm not holding out much hope for this

I'm not completely sure that DB's taste in roles has anything to do with it. I doubt he's being offered a tremendous amount of stuff.

My big complaint with this is I suspect he won't get to do any comedy. He's very funny.

More likely a funny one off or two like in Angel. It could be what he's offered then again he talks about selecting his roles and you think to yourself, this man honestly went out and PICKED this?

House is a show that lives and dies on Hugh Laurie--don't expect the storyline to make sense beyond the medical mystery of the week, just sit back and enjoy the snark.

Exactly. It's all about Hugh.

Somehow I expected this. Though now that I'm NOT the resident getting snarked at I find it funny, full body shivers as I remember 1991-1995 aside.

I loathe shows where the characters are so stupid they shouldn't be allowed out of their houses with a keeper, and especially shows where that character is almost always going to be female - see The Inside.

I'll give Bones a shot, but to be honest, I'm not that much of a Boreanaz fan that I'll sit though a second rate show just to watch him.

I'm really not excited about any of the shows the Bverse actors are going to be in.

I saw the Inside for the first time today. Not tremendously impressed. I have only seen the thing Aly and DB are going to be in though I know other actors have new shows. I like cop stuff so I'll probably get Bones a try

ITA with everything you said. Saw the Bones pilot, and while it's clear that DB is billed as co-star, the REAL star is EDC. DB is doing pretty much what he did as Angel in Seasons 1-3 BtVS: being the lead gal's UST-guy. It doesn't really match with what he said at the demise of AtS and an AtS movie: kick it up a notch, etc..... At the same time, after 8 years of playing one character and 5 years of 14-hour and 16-hour days, and all those night shoots, it's probably a bit of a relief to step back from the plate and have some day work, too. Of course, I'll watch, but it left me kinda cold. We'll see how the subsequent episodes proceed.

Night Stalker? squee!! One of my all-time fave series. Like you, I can't wait to see the updated and remodeled Night Stalker. I was kinda hoping that old Sci-Fic channel series (can't remember the name;was set in an Enquirer kind of paper) would be more Night Stalker-y, but no go.

Youall moved in, now?

Given it's forensics work they'll probably find ways to shoot in the dark (like the CSI NYC I just glanced at.) I like the books so maybe there's hope but yes IF he's in the role I think he is, then he is the lead gal's UST guy.

Yeah I'm doing the happy nightstalker dance.

Actually no. I'm at my parent's place. I'll move to my new place in AUgust. It's only about 3 1/2-4 hours from here so staying here, paying no rent and not having to fly to go find a place was worth putting up with living with the rents for a month

I had read a couple of those Kathy Reichs books, liked the ones I did read. But knowing the way television is, they'll probably mess it all up :/
