Made it back
Jan. 9th, 2020 10:37 pmIt was a good drive. I had too much crap in my car. OMG why so much crap? It's like this every time. It was a very isolated drive too, very light traffic especially for I-70 which is usually a mad house.
Unpacked the car, ate dinner and started unpacking the stuff I dragged in here and the TV picture died. OMFG. That TV isn't even 3 years old and it's one of the most reliable brands on the market. I swear to god I'm an escaped character from the damned Dresden Files. Maybe I should go Amish at this point with as much as electronics hate me.
Now after the big sucky faculty meeting tomorrow I have to drag my ass to Wal-Mart and buy a new one (because I won't be up to a drive to Best Buy which is some 70 miles away and I don't want to wait on delivery which here is NOT over night and is always extra charge. Whimpers.
I have a lot of mixed feelings about nut milks (Personally I think they taste awful). They're not as benign as we pretend but this news about almond milk is even more disturbing and maybe you want to reconsider it. The farming techniques are destroying bees. Here's a good article about it Like sending bees to war': the deadly truth behind your almond-milk obsession and a shorter version here Almond Milk Is Even More Evil Than You Thought

Date: 2020-01-10 04:32 pm (UTC)Thanks for the links about the almond milk. I can't have any dairy so I'm usually choosing soy or coconut milk, partly for preference and partly as I'm familiar with the almond-and-bee problem. I'm still buying almonds for some snack occasions and baking, though, as I'm allergic to hazelnuts, but I'm limiting the amount continually and try to get almonds from spain if possible.
Soy and coconut milk I'm making often myself, and buy soy beans as well as soy milk only from European sources. But I'm also using less than half of the amount in general than people usually would use dairy products, as I try to eat as little processed food as possible.

Date: 2020-01-10 05:31 pm (UTC)I was born lactose intolerant so I never got into things that require milk so I have very little reason to get nut milks. I couldn't have rice milk because of the diabetes and the data still isn't in about soy and breast cancer (estrogen sensitive as soy is an estrogen mimic) here's hoping coconut milk is a more sustainable substitue.
