Thanksgiving
Nov. 25th, 2021 09:43 pmI didn't get to write as much as I wanted (WHERE did this day go)
Let me share the feast
Turnip au gratin. This is my first time a) making a gratin from scratch b) mandolined turnips. It came out really good. Turnips have a spicy funk to them. I used baby turnips so easier to cut.
minestra di pane (will be ribollita tomorrow) this is where my old bagels went and I learned WHY you can't have dark greens on blood thinners. I needed kale and chard for this but Kroger didn't have them fresh BUT had them as 'power greens salad' along with mizuna. I'm like WTF is mizuna and when I looked it up learned it is filled with Vitamin K. A clotting agent.
The full plate, rotissiere turkey from Kroger's (that breast is so frakking big it could feed three.) stuffin' muffins and honey cardamon carrots to go with that gratin.
Chocolate Bourbon tart. Note to self, stick this out on the counter for half hour before serving because that chocolate is hard AF
Here's that outfit. holographic unicorns, unicorn hoodie, hell I'd wear this now...if it weren't pink
Snippet The magic you wove, it’s for healing?” Alessia asked.
Amalia widened her eyes at Alessia. “You felt it?”
She nodded. “I’m good at that.”
“It is not a common skill but a useful one.”
“I wish I could,” Grace said, leaning against Alessia’s shoulder.
Before Alessia could respond, Dan’s fingers twitched in hers. He made a horrible noise, gagging on the ventilator tube. He brought his hand up, clawing at it as his eyes snapped open, rolling wildly. Amalia caught his hands.
“Hush now, Danilo,” she said and then added something in the language Alessia didn’t know. It wasn’t Spanish which Dan knew so Alessia assumed it was Tagalog.
Alessia captured his hand as he slipped free of Amalia. “Leave that alone. I know it feels awful but you can’t pull it out okay,” she said sternly.
“Grace, go let the nurses know he’s away and fighting,” Amalia said.
Grace took off. Amalia whispered to Dan and he calmed. Alessia felt the magic in those words. The nurses came and shooed them all out of the room so they could work. A white coated doctor slipped inside the room as Amalia extended her arms to encompass Alessia and Grace.
“Let’s go find Alon and Efrem, let them know Dan is awake,” she said.

Date: 2021-11-26 08:15 pm (UTC)My s-i-l makes something like 'stuffin' muffins'. She adds cheese and dried cranberries . . . and I don't know what else, but they're pretty danged good.
I love that you make yourself a nice meal. If I was doing it just for myself I probably wouldn't. Though I would go buy it, lol!

Date: 2021-11-27 02:23 am (UTC)I have never had stuffing with cheese in it. Could be interesting.
Well in full disclosure the turkey was from Kroger's rotissiere and reheated.

Date: 2021-11-27 03:29 pm (UTC)I found this recipe on the Kraft website, though I don't think she uses nuts. And I think she now just mixes the cheese in because she makes them ahead of time and just reheats them: Cheesy Stuffing Cups.
You absolutely do not lose points for that. *g*
