More personal wounds to the heart

cornerofmadnessYesterday I got a zillow update with the perfect house in the picture. I was so excited I didn't even look at the price. It was exactly what I wanted. It was a pretty house (real house not manufactured) stone foundation and siding, pretty dormers just outside Jackson in the country on a cemetery road (Lived four years by a cemetery in college, got a taste for the quiet of it). Then I notice the price. Why so cheap?
It was built in 2004 and NEVER FINISHED. It's been an empty shell for nearly 20 years. No furnace/ac, well water, not even sure it has electricity run out to it. The entire inside isn't finished. You have to wonder WTF happened that a house has sat half finished for two decades and hell the roof would need replacing because most roofs of this style (asphalt tiles) are 20 year roofs WITH some heat/cooling protecting it and someone looking after it. Ugh. this needs a contractor to buy it and finish it. The disappointment was so acute.
I had wanted to see ballet under the stars tonight but said no because you have to sit on the ground. I'd never get back up. And it was cancelled due to the fact it's over 90.
And I started looking at hotels for my trip and now I have to change part of my trip. Now I stayed in Newport RI in 2017. Sadly I didn't document the hotel (I probably still have the casino card back home) because I document most everything because we can't find it (and some of their casinos have failed). Well looking at expedia/tripadvisor/kayak etc every hotel is over FIVE hundred dollars. Most over 800. Now I did not pay anything near that. I found one motel 6 for 100$ and the 'pineapple hotel' (some ancient travelodge from the 50s/60s) for 73. Um how fast am I getting knifed in that hotel if all the others cost more than my rent for a day.
So since Newport apparently no longer wants to welcome the middle class, I'm looking for alternatives. Hell I could have gone out to block island for a damn day to stay and it would be cheaper than Newport and you know what I have seen it, I just wanted to return. There has to be hotels somewhere but if not, screw it. Actually Exeter RI had a few more things I would have liked to see so I can spend the night there.
And something must be happening in Salem because one hotel nicely put prices on the calendar and the same room that's 194 in the beginning of July is over 400 by the end
It's just one disappointment after another.

Too bad you can't return to Newport. I hope you find someplace to stay where you can enjoy yourself at a reasonable price.
