I spent the day writing syllabi as they're due and I forgot about them. Yikes.

Then we walked Secrets of Dumbledore. The parents wanted to see it and I guess we all wanted to see how the story played out after that lousy second movie. I don't like giving that woman any money or attention but ...

Mom liked it. Dad was bored. I was meh. It wasn't as god awful as the second movie but the problem really is the first movie which had humor, joy and heart, doesn't really match the joyless drama of the second two.

I DO have a question for all of you. I'm already thinking about nanowrimo and I know what I should do is finish last year's nano but I'm thinking of working on the horror novel I thought about while I was hospitalized set in the nursing home. Yeah it's basically me with some scary shadow monster.

That's not the question. The question is should I have it set with the Covid restrictions or not? I'm leaning to the latter because a) a lot of places are already tired of Covid stories and b) I can bring in some friends if it's not under restrictions (no one was allowed in to see me and that does add a level of isolation) What do you think.

Without Covid restrictions gives you a freedom of time you don't have with the restrictions... so your story could be timeless (as in no set time) or set to early 2000's or like 1980 or something else... whatever makes your muse happy but gives you a better story.

While the isolation angle can give it at least a psychological horror, a Covid related story can be a tougher sell and narrows your audience.

My $0.02 worth!

I watch The Secrets of DUmbledore with KT in Alabama, and it was worth it just for the "swivel" scenes. Heh. But, yeah, that was one of the few funny bits.

I think COVID would give it a heightened sense of terror and you could maybe play with people getting tired of restrictions and having that tension as well.

But yeah, I'm tired of thinking about COVID though, so maybe not.

I think the Covid restrictions would give it more of a sense of isolation and you against the monster on your own and that's scary enough. But it's a nursing home and there are plenty of other times for that feeling to creep in- set bedtime hours, patient acts up and has to be restrained/set apart in some way, etc. and having people there to hear the story and not really be able to help because they aren't there or allowed in past visiting hours could be fun as well.

So that's me being absolutely no help at all.

I'd say no covid, but agree that you should do whatever fits the story better. Maybe do a general outline of it both ways and see what you like better?

I refuse to give her any more money so I stopped at the first movie. And from what I'e heard about them, I've not regretted a thing.

I kind of understand why you'd want to do the isolation factor, can you set it outside of COVID like during a bad winter storm or a lock down due to some other reason that's not COVID?

I agree no COVID.

Well, I guess I'll wait until I can stream that movie cheaply.
