So I'm computer hunting

In the meantime I have a loaner from work that I can have for as long as I need but I won't abuse that. Not to mention I'm pretty uncomfortable with knowing I'll have to turn this back in with the ghosts of porny stories and god knows what else. they are trying to fix my laptop but it seems pretty much a lost cause. Also it was explained to me that if it has a short in it then it's only a matter of time before that thing literally turns into a bomb.

And upon reflection, my first HP Envy lasted like 6 weeks and crapped out. Assumed that was a lemon. This one was running HOT ever since I got it. Now using this one and it's not like working on a stove top I'm realizing how bad that Envy was so it might always be an issue. My uni has a deal with Dell so I might get one of those.

What has me worried is I can't get into Jana's website on my desktop and it says my email isn't registered but it IS. I double checked it on Saturday so I have no idea if I can get into it on this laptop and what to do about it if it isn't (I know someone who works for wordpress but he might legally not be allowed to help)

I see the doc for a second opinion on my knee tomorrow. Say a prayer for me.

I wouldn't touch any HP computer with a bargepole, sorry. My friend got one for my mum, brought it home, start-up failed. Took it back, got another, that failed, got a third, and that didn't work either. She ended up with an Advent, which was fine. I usually go with Acer, this is my third. Last one lasted me 8 years of daily all-day use so I'm hoping this one will be as good.

That's me with Dell and Acer, both died on me within months. My other HP is 11 years old and is fine. that said Dell seems to have upped their game and if the school is going to get me a discount I might as well do that. I give it 18 months before I'm pitching it

Let's hope it lasts longer for you. Everything breaks down so fast these days, and it's all set up so you can't get replacement parts for the newer computers, so you have to buy new every time. It sucks.

Last time I had an HP laptop it lasted about three weeks; this was at work so I was able to get it replaced with a Dell. My go-to laptop series are Lenovo Thinkpad and Dell Latitude. Look for the ones with a pointing stick (little nubbin between the G, H, and B keys) and three buttons.

I'm presently using a Thinkpad X230; they're available used for $200-500 depending on condition, battery, and amount of RAM.

I have had the worst luck with Dell. But they seem to have gotten their crap together. My other HP is 11 years old and fine. i need a new machine with a lot of memory for work so it might be the dell because of the work discount whether I want one or not

I feel you! Perhaps saving those only on mobile devices or the cloud for the time being? I'd rather go for a new one under the circumstances, that exploding issue is real. ONe of my first mobile phones (a Nokia) had an audio jack issue, was sent in to repair, audio jack was repaired, only to have the thing nearly explode in my hand the first time I turned it on - I just could throw it away where it exploded under my desk, killing my computer screen with the smoke (this was before flatscreens existed and the smoke got into the airing vents of the thing) and scorched the wood floor badly; thankfully no fire broke out. Turned out they'd created a short with the repair... and of course refused to take any responsibility, even wanted to made me pay for my new phone ("it's your own fault, why did you turn it in for repairs [at the provider's licensed facility, at that]". My lawyer BFF had some fun with them.
