So I got the bright idea to go to Point Pleasant an hour before I THOUGHT the Mothman Festival started (I thought it started at 10 with the first speaker at 11) Well the speaker was at 11 but it must have started WAY earlier.

I picked up my friend TH and we got there around 915. The Silver Bridge (new) is solid traffic. The handicapped parking lot is FULL. So I ask one of the event staffers where is additional parking for the handicapped. 'I dunno.' Eyeroll. They wanted us to pay to park at Krodel Park but this year there IS NO SHUTTLE. That is FOUR miles outside of town. Are you fucking high?

TH and I have been to the Mothman multiple times and we know the city so I drive around and found a handicapped spot on the street in front of a huge presby church just two blocks off. Point Pleasant is on the Ohio River flood plain so it's a flat easy walk.

The first thing I see is a car covered in the Hodag a creature from Rhinelander WI where I used to live. THE HODAG. I bought a shirt. I was so excited and literally the Hodag was at every vendor along with the Flatwoods Monster. WHEE.

The vendors were great. I picked up another Nox Arcana cd. I could have bought so much junk and better yet there was a new permanent store, Point Pleasant Trading Company which had all kinds of geeky stuff (got my brother something) and then I wanted to go to the coffee shop and at 930 AM the line was literally around the block. However a food truck had coffee and mini donuts. I got that (maple-bacon-sirracha donuts because I make bad choices) TH and I went to the amphitheater to sit and eat which might have been a mistake (though it's so nice and peaceful there at the river)

Because there was another store I wanted to see, the Bunker, a pop culture store. Now the line for EVERYTHING is at least a block or more long. OMFG. The line to take a picture with the Mothman is all the way to the river. The line to get into the mothman museum is to the main highway blocks away. TH and I give it all a pass. We're locals and we can always come back. I was talking to someone from Chicago. I'm like let THEM have the opportunity for this stuff.

We hit all the vendors. Bought something from a friend of mine (ghost book) bought a BigFoot book (more on that tomorrow), got some gifts for friends. Talked to a lot of vendors. Decided to pass on the talks because it was standing room only (because we couldn't use the theater which isn't air conditioned but also probably not safe right now it was in a much smaller place) because a) covid is still a thing and even with my mask I didn't want closed in with that many people and b) most of the talks were big foot related which aren't my big thing.

We did go into the Mason Jar, my favorite antique store. We sat down in there for a while too. I found a pie keeper with coyotes? Wolves? I think the latter as there were cacti impressed into the metal of the keeper that really would have loved to come home with me so evil little dog could be jealous.

We were there about 3 hours and then left as I had already spent money like a drunken sailor (but the knee was fine with all the walking) and we were getting hungry and I wasn't standing in a 2 block long for roach coach food. As we went over the bridge there was SO MUCH traffic trying to come over the bridge from Rt 2 I couldn't see an end to it for miles.

I stopped at the gym I won the gift card too. It was closed. (WTF) and said okay we can hit buffalo wild wings

It was fun but my god that festival was crowded.

Tonight I had an Abney Park concert on youtube. It was...bad. Truly this was not good which it usually is. I know they just had covid but did they lose whoever does sound for them? They were drowning each other out. they were horribly out of town and honestly I think a couple might still be sick. I hope the new album release streaming concert will be beter.

I'm glad you had a good day (and bought lots of stuff) despite the challenges.
