So I met the oncologist today (and he was very nice and when he learned I'm a doctor as well, he addressed me as such) Things found on exam today
1. Stupid IUD is where it's meant to be, it's just stupid. (Frak this thing)
2. No palpable masses
3. it is a low grade beginning cancer so it's most likely just in the uterus. It's also non-aggressive (i.e. it spreads slow)
4. His nurse had the same procedure for the same reason and is fine (good to know)

. It'll be a few tiny ports in the abdomen so he can free up the organ and yank it out like a tampon.

They'll lavage the area first (and check the fluid to be sure no endometrium or cancer is floating around outside of the uterus (and obviously if he sees anything on the outside things change)

The aggravating part is it'll be 2 weeks before pathology comes back. Ugh.

Since I'm already post menopausal there is no harm in removing everything. The bone loss and heart disease increase you'd get from removal is already underway as that crap happens to us all.

If it has spread radiation is the next step but he seems pretty hopeful that won't be the case. Of course you won't know until the surgery but it's good to know. Now we have to get all the blood thinner bullshit fixed

But the really worst part is the surgical prep which includes self administered fleet enemas Well that should be fun...

Surgery is the 13th. I can't work for 2 week. Two weeks of my mom here. They want me to go back to PA which is okay but who is going to do my labs? I can do the class online for 2 weeks. Ugh. Messy.

From there I went to the mall. Got some crap at Michael's I don't need plus the cardinal for my hat. I went to Spirit Halloween to see if I could get a brown steampunk hat form. They had one that was too pricey because I want to rip it up and make my bird hat (I really want it to be brown) but they had a leak in the roof so half their shit was underwater.

because it was raining. I mean RAINING. I got gas at the cheap wal-mart (like 50cents cheaper than here) and as soon as I get out, it starts raining sideways. My hair is plastered to my head, you can see my bra through my shirt and I have to go to the mall like this. Thanks Mother Nature.

TJ Maxx had some really good mochi. They have beautiful gothic chinaware that I regret not buying but I don't need a third set of plates and they're so heavy I wouldn't want them as every day ware. Books a million had manga buy one get one 50% off so I lost my mind a little.

I'll do the fandom recs tomorrow.

*hugs* I am glad to hear that things look reasonably good and I'm glad the oncologist is a good egg, that's always a relief. <3 I really hope your labs get sorted quickly, that's something you shouldn't need to worry about as you await surgery. :/

Ugh, and I can see how your students wouldn't be happy to just postpone lab and do doubles of it next term. :/
Yeah - that does sound like you're all having a blast! :( Hope your colleague receives good news on her treatment, too. :(

I'm glad you got some good news from the appointment and that your surgery is scheduled in just a few weeks! I'll keep sending good thoughts that doesn't find anything else during the surgery. (I did chuckle a bit at the tampon analogy.)

I freaking hate getting wet like that. It would really have ruined my mood, if I had one to begin with.

That all sounds like the best of all possible news, given the context, and I do hope that both preparation and pathology are as simple (and negative, in the case of the latter) as possible. *hugs*

Glad the news for you was good and that your surgery will be happening soon. I think the two weeks away is mainly for the folks who are on the higher pain medication- those things knocked me out, but also, you don't want to be getting in and out of a car too often right after surgery. They'll probably have you not able to lift anything and stretching and bending for those initial weeks is uncomfortable so having someone around with you, while not ideal, is not a terrible thing.

Best of luck with everything!

I'm glad to hear that the doctor seemed to be knowledgeable and on top of it. Getting all of it scheduled so quickly is nice. That's awesome that your mom can help you out as you recover.

A little retail therapy was probably what you needed after such a stressful appointment.
