Here's some pictures of my trip to see [livejournal.com profile] evil_little_dog

The Haunted Williard Library

And inside the library. I couldn't do this place justice. It's lovely.

And Oak Hills Cemetery because cemeteries have beautiful art, no really.

Katie and her baby. I have a close up of the baby's grave as well

This little boy was so German, not just in dress but the whole tombstone is in German

Another little boy, feeding a lamb a fish...I'm not entirely sure of the symboltry other than it's very very Christian

Just look at the armband and the detail on her gown, beautiful

And then we have the Catholic cemetery. Ostentatious thy name is Catholic. I'm used to the very flashy Italian graveyards of the North east but midwestern Germans prove they can hold their own.

Why yes, we had more money than God, just look at us

No, no we have more money, look a life sized Jesus and BOTH Mary's

Hey don't count us out. We can reproduce the Pieta!

And here something I've never seen anywhere else. The circle are graves of priest. That's not the surprise. The surprise is the Stations of the Cross ringing around it. I've not seen them outside of a church before (and hey, if you thought they were creepy as a young child in church, that's nothing compared to these large ones outside where pollution makes them look bloody)

Actually, it can be amazing sometimes. Reading as an adult what you liked as a child. There's this one sci-fi story I loved, and when I read it 30 years later, I'm like, "Damn, this author was a big-time Socialist!" I just remember thinking, as a kid, that his alien society was really cool and had things right.

That book was a Newberry award winner. I read it when I wasn't a kid and it's excellent.
