cornerofmadness: Angel in drag holding up cards (King of the damned by Natgel)

Ugh, I've had no time for drabbling late. Here's one for [livejournal.com profile] open_on_sunday 'mea culpa' challenge.

Angel -Not Fade Away - I'm sorry

Maybe he should have taken some of the blame. Yes, a lot of it rested on Holtz’s shoulders and Connor’s, too. The boy was hardly blameless but Angel knew he should have been the better man. He was the adult, after all. Maybe he shouldn’t have pushed Connor so hard to fit into the dreams he had for his son. He certainly shouldn’t have tossed the boy out, waiting for him to come back. Angel had become his own father, not even realizing it, worse even. Now in a rainy alley, Angel knew it was too late to say I’m sorry.

I had some additional thoughts about Sins of the Father. Now overall, I really liked it. Except for one thing (which I'll get to), you got season 4 Connor perfect. I did have a few issues with it though:

1) I thought Lorne attacking Connor was OOC. Personally, I think running away as fast as he can and screaming like a woman is more Lorne's style. I mean, he's not the bravest guy, and Connor's one hell of a fighter. And it's not like there was even anyone else at the hotel to defend, what with Cordelia already being dead.

2) I thought Wesley was *much* too calm and understanding about the fact that Connor killed Fred. If it were anyone else, perhaps, since Wesley does tend to emphasize his intellect over his emotions, and Connor was clearly out of his mind. But this is Fred we're talking about here, and I think in that instance Wes would have lost it, seeing her body hacked in pieces like that. After all, he attacked Gunn for his part in her infection by Illyria, and shot a random co-worker because he wasn't working on Fred's illness. Fred's the one thing he lets himself be irrational about.

3) I thought Connor was done really well, except for being a bit too articulate about how if Holtz killed himself, then he care more about revenge than him. I'm just not sure he'd say something like that aloud so calmly. He went nuts at the mall partly because he finally realized that all the people who had claimed to love him (except Angel) were ultimately using him. So while he might have his unconscious suspicious, I don't think he's mature enough or self-aware enough to be able to so articulate about it. I honestly think part of what pushed him over the edge was finally not being able to be in denial about it anymore.

Otherwise though, I really liked it. You managed to make Connor very sympathetic in spite of the fact that he goes psychotic and kills three people. I also really liked the interaction between Connor and Faith, since I would have liked to have seen more of that on the show, but didn't. Also, you made Angel react the way he *should* have reacted to ConCord, which was just pure wish fulfillment. But the use of the Beast gave it that necessary touch of canon.

1. yeah you're probably right. Lorne's acts of bravery were few and far between

2. again you're probably right. I just despise Fred and really no one in my little world gives a damn if she dies

this reminds me to one day FINISH the sequels to this story.

YES. I think it's time to show that attention span deficient muse who's boss!

Wait...there's more than one sequel???

I just despise Fred and really no one in my little world gives a damn if she dies

Heh. I just finished re-reading "Drop Dead Fred", oddly enough. Heee!

feh. life. stupid life, interfering with my being able to get my fanfic fix. see...it really is all about me. :p

don't feel bad about bashing fred. it was damn amusing. and hey, i'm sure people have written similar fics bashing connor.

i don't really hate fred per se, i just thought she was boring. and i didn't like how they ruined wes and gunn's friendship over a love triangle. very cliche. i think love triangles should be banned from television.

Oh yeah, and you can definitely tell by your writing which characters you like and which ones you don't.
