Winry thought Ed had told her everything there in that frigid cell in the Briggs Mountains. She should have realized that with Kimbley standing over them that Ed couldn’t be completely forthcoming. Maybe he was afraid of putting her in even more danger so she had no way of knowing the peril she was in.
He found her in the market of Rush Valley, having returned briefly after they had slipped away from Kimbley. She wanted to get alternate parts for Ed to prepare him for any environment he might find himself in before she was to head to Dublith. They didn’t know if the military knew about Izumi but it might be a place for Winry to hide just for a little while.
Winry had been thrilled to see Ling again there in the market. She wished she could have told him more about Ran Fan, still slightly hurt that the girl hadn’t chosen her as her mechanic. Why did everyone think she needed protecting? If they just told her the facts, she could protect herself or maybe she was deluding herself.
Ling’s smile when he saw her had been so bright. She had forgotten just how handsome he was, though she would never have mentioned that to Ed. At the thought of him, it struck Winry how different the two boys were; Ed golden like the sun, Ling dark as midnight, both striking in their own way.
“It is nice to see you again, Winry,” Ling said brightly. “Are Edward and his brother with you?”
“No, I don’t know where they are. I never do,” she replied, giving the answer she had agreed on with the brothers. Half the time it was true, anyhow.
“I’m glad.” The look in his eye was positively wicked as he took her rough hand. “Leaving a beautiful woman like you alone, shame on them. You should come with me back home and be my bride.”
Winry blushed. Unlike the first time Ling had said that to her, she felt like he might actually mean it this time. She didn’t know what to say. “You want to be emperor some day. You need a proper bride, not an Amestrian automail mechanic.”
The cold look in Ling’s eyes chilled her. “They’ll accept whomever I say,” he replied grimly and, at her hesitation, he seemed to force himself to brighten. “It’s a perk of being emperor. Let me change your mind.”
Winry hadn’t expected the kiss. Moreover, she hadn’t expected it to be so…overwhelming. Ling’s tongue and lips worked her mouth, leaving her breathless. Her knees went as insubstantial as heat waves off the desert roads. Ling’s arm tucked perfectly into the small of her back as he deepened the kiss, greedily. Winry leaned against him, flooded with warmth, tingling in several places that she didn’t want to think too hard about. She loved Edward and knew that she did, but would he ever kiss her like this? Why did she fear the answer was no?
Ling favored her with a hungry smile, brushing a finger across her cheek. “I’ll give you some time to think about it. Meet me here tomorrow.”
Winry just nodded, her lips feeling too hot not to singe any words that might pass through them. She scurried back to her hotel and called the brothers. When Al told her what had happened to Ling she realized she had been far too close to a homunculus. Not taking any chances that anything of Ling remained in Greed – and maybe that explained the wonderful way he stole the kiss – Winry packed up and caught a train out in the middle of the night. The market place would find Ling alone the coming day.

Date: 2007-06-05 02:14 am (UTC)Poor Winry, left wondering if Ed would ever kiss her like that. Although, maybe if she confessing to him, Ed'll just -have- to prove he's a much better kisser than Ling (in any shape or form) can ever be. That would be a win-win situation for Winry, right? Right!
