you totally know you're rural when the bank's digital sign invites you to stop in and vote for the best pig in Jackson...

Started back with the faculty meeting and well, I don't want to say a lot about that for my own safety. But tell me why I can't say no? I'm now involved with like three or four new projects including: being recorder for a committee I was assigned to; dual credit biology course team teaching with local high school profs; faculty improvement of high school teachers. The dual credit one means I have to make tests for THEM too. GAH! Why? Why?

Okay i know why I can't stop volunteering
1. looking good/indispensible to current employer
2. looking even better to future potential employers
3. i like helping
4. I'm totally controlling and don't like having something out there I don't have some kind of control over.

And speaking of future employers...one of the jobs I applied for just got back to me saying they needed to extend the deadline for application because they need a few more applicants and did I still want to play? Did I want to send an updated CV. YOU BET! I have one class and three new projects to tell you all about. And I'm also looking to spearhead a faculty time exercise program at the pool.

and if you missed the charity writing project I just signed up for, please take a look. Thanks.

There's a sign at the entrance to a major highway here that say something about animals and farm vehicles being prohibited.

A bank? That's not rural -- that's small town.

Where and when I grew up, there was a distinction and a difference. Not nearly as much as in Ireland, where country people and small-towners were sometimes on the opposite sides in civil wars; but there was a difference.

well jackson is small town. Where I actually live, where there isn't a real town center for about seven miles, that's rural

I have sort of the opposite problem. I have this thing with not being a joiner. Hence, if something involves other people, I tend not to be involved in it.

i'm not really as much of a people person as this might seem, but i know how to network to improve my career

I probably need to learn how to do that better, I guess it's just the very concept of having to have ulterior motives in my social interactions kind of digusts me, even though I know it's part of life, if that makes any sense.

Meh. *hides in a cave*

I know what you mean. I get a little annoyed when friends call sorority/fraternities as 'buying friends' in a tone to suggest that's the only way you'd get them. I guess in a way it is, but it was the first best way I ever marketed myself. Two jobs were eased by those connections and my secretary and I were in the same sorority which is rather neat.
