Festival time
Sep. 15th, 2007 09:04 pmwell since i have been to the Mothman festival twice (and there having been NO difference between them) I decided to go to the Paw Paw festival at Lake Snowden over by Athens which is always the same weekend. The website made it sound like fun and I'm a sucker, as I've mentioned, of festivals. I get there and it is gloriously cool, like 68 degrees. WHee (I'm the only twit in shorts but I like it cold)
I had high hopes since the first guy I meet is handing out heriloom daffodil bulbs with a website (I'll need to send that out to my gardening friends). But after that...let me just say I would love to take this festival over and give them pointer. Okay the paw paw beer (which I went there for) was good, a nice smooth beer from the Marietta brewing company (with no fruity accents to be honest, tasted like lager) and the music was jammed packed, no problems there.
They had special interest groups of course, for the Athens area which meant they didn't interest me. But ALL and I do mean ALL the vendors were selling beaded jewelry (or Indian beaded jewelry). There was no variety except for the loan woman who did ceremaic leaves and the one who did glasswear that was hideously overpriced. and about a dozen or more jewelry makers who were on par with ME for skill level. And all the stuff on the website, the paw paw tasting, the pawpaw products consisted on pawpaw soap at the love tent (more on that) and ONE, let me repeat that, ONE vendor that had paw paws (not counting the one pizza place that had paw paw smoothies, which was good, but unadvertized, the people at the love tent had to tell me).
There I am, all excited to be trying my first paw paw (it's kind of custardy and mellow and a bit bland). I liked it but the products I stood in a long line for that everyone was oooing and ahhhhing over, they were lying. They were awful. I mean dear god get it off my tongue awful. I ended up buying none of them.
As for the love tent, I went there to find the soaps and to see about the tarot card reading. Suddenly I'm grabbed and dragged into a line and they tell me I'm the first person in the angel walk where we walk the gauntlet and everyone tells you good things about yourself. Push and away I go down the gauntlet where old hippies (in their love in clothes) and dreadlocked youngsters from the college are all laying on of the hands and of course I didn't get to run away (that would be rude) so I'm there holding hands with these people while some amateur photography student from Ohio Unversity is going to town. With my luck I'll be in the paper. The old hippie wanted me to put my Green Man on the 'peace' altar for recharging while I got my fortune read. When I cut the cards (asking about ye ol' novel) Got some power cards like the King and Knight of swords, King and Knight of pentacles, temperance and the empress. When she did a three card lay out there came the magician, the sun and you know it, my all time favorite card since I always get it, the ten of swords.
Since I drove all the way to Athens for this, I head into town (this is a 50 mile one way trip), see a Shoe Dept. and go looking for black leather shoes since the ones I just bought didn't last three weeks. No luck. So Halloween USA. bought junk I didn't need but wanted. And foolishly decided, eh, the chinese buffet is here so why go looking for Lam's Garden, my favorted chinese place. big mistake.
Speaking of Halloween, i love it. But my neighbors are making me sad. One of them put their stuff out on Labor Day, the rest did it today. Seriously I don't need TWO months of looking at it. It makes it less special.

If you want/need anything Halloween, I may soon be clearing out my stock. Let me know what you collect. JK in MA will want some of my skull stuff, I'm sure. :-)

Date: 2007-09-16 03:39 am (UTC)Once my financial aid comes in (I sound like a welfare loser, sigh), I'll pay down the cred. card. I will also try to sell some stuff on eBay as I just want some fun money to go to the ren. fair or the Mother Earth festival (the one I mentioned in a different post - or this one. I dunno.)

Date: 2007-09-17 04:35 am (UTC)There should be a law against putting up Halloween decorations in September. I haven't seen any around my neighborhood--yet--but I'm sure they'll appear soon. I'm gritting my teeth. It's bad enough to be burned out on Christmas by early October, but spoiling Halloween is a mortal sin. (I have nobody to go with me to Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween party this year, and that's bumming me out, too. I have no excuse at all to don fangs and lace and funny makeup. Bah.)

Date: 2007-09-17 03:03 pm (UTC)tell me about it. I just want to hit my neighbors and what's up with christmas crap being out all ready in the stores?
and i was just whining about Disney since they've updated the haunted mansion. Wails. maybe we can save up for next year

Date: 2007-09-18 03:30 am (UTC)I'd forgotten about the Haunted Mansion upgrades. That definitely needs to be checked out. I want to see the Harry Potter/Hogsmeade thing at Universal as soon as that's finished, too (whenever that's going to be). We have a lot to save up for.

Date: 2007-09-18 03:37 am (UTC)I didn't even KNOW abotu the Universal thing.
