[Poll #1253959]

And the suck of today keeps on going. [livejournal.com profile] lyrangalia informs me due to leasing issues, the Star Trek experience in Vegas is gone. WAILS

I'm voting "other" with Baltimore in mind, but I think the setting depends largely on where the character would fit best, really. If he/she/they are the patient, genteel, laid-back type, you might think somewhere in the South (Charleston is metropolitan and creepy--remember that graveyard I took pictures of that rainy day?--and _old_, you can feel the old everywhere.) More hard-driving types might prefer the Northeast, free spirits the West or Northwest. Vegas has been hot lately as a setting, so I'd avoid it. Since Florida is such a melting pot, you could base any kinds of characters in Cassadaga to operate in metro Orlando with no bothersome cultural bias to hold you back. I tried St. Augustine myself, if you remember, and the characters firmly rejected the place as too podunk for good plot lines and fled to Japan, so I have a personal bias against it (plus they tore down the Bridge of Lions and replaced it with an industrial steel bridge, so piss on them, the place is ugly now). You're right about the history, though. St. Augustine has it in spades.

oh great, Vegas ditches my favorite attraction

St Aug ruins itself.

I'm not sure i've seen vamps in vegas much so it's still very viable. Arri is a bit of a partier.

I have my own issues with Baltimore.

the sad part is New Orleans is practically a character istself. itll lose something in translation

Savannah was no-place before Berendt wrote _Midnight in the Garden_. Now it's sexy. A good writer can make a place come alive, even one that doesn't have the cachet of New Orleans. You just have to find its heartbeat and translate it on paper. Vegas and Chicago are both "vapor trail cities"--they destroy their own past as they build so everything is new, new, new, so writing anything atmospheric about them is difficult. Vegas is definitely more of a party town than St. Augustine, though. If the characters themselves won't make any suggestions, one can only hope that something will suggest itself. Keep your eyes out for "signs."

Sean Patrick highly recommends Vegas for vampires.

I say Myrtle Beach, SC. Southern charm meets bikinis, golf, tattoo parlors, strip clubs, family amusement parks, buffets, coeds, and more. Oh and don't forget the two bike weeks in May.

I say Vegas, as vampires don't need air or sunlight, and Vegas has neither. :P

Okay, I was unaware the Bridge of Lions has been torn down until reading Karen's comment. Which makes me very sad.

So I previously voted for St Aug.

And I got your grey egg to crack.

I vote New York or Chicago. Both are very historical and easily researchable and have teeming night life!
