Looks like i need my gallbladder out. I go for a hidascan next week which usually involves injesting radioactive fats and taking pictures. Even it's 'normal' doesn't guarantee that my gallbladder IS normal so Doc wants me to schedule with the surgeon especially since I have some low grade infection based on my WBC count.

I know that gallbladders are like this, hard to image, look normal on scans then are abnormal upon removal. Mom's gallbladder was bad. My aunt died from an infected gallbladder. So yeah, probably it's not going to see 2009. I just hope that there IS something on the scan so I can relax about possibly removing a good organ because there WILL be after effects. You rather need that thing.

Speaking of that, anyone have yours out? I know [livejournal.com profile] trixiefatcat has. What have you noticed most without it?

I also want my gallbladder back. I know I can't get it but i REALLY want it. I want to put it in a jar and show the class.

I asked about my sinus headaches too which get worse in a shower. SHe looks at me and says but STEAM should make it better. Yeah i know which is why I'm bringing it up. So once we're sure i'm not wandering around with a time bomb nestled in the lobes of my liver, I get to go to the ENT

[livejournal.com profile] sillymagpie had hers out a couple of years ago. She hasn't mentioned any adverse effects except the usual recovery time from major surgery...

Hers was apparently pretty bad, but she's one of those "It's only a flesh wound!" types, and by the time she went in to the doctor she was turning yellow.. They sent her to the emergency room then and there. :P

If you can't have your gallbladder back, maybe you could ask for pictures? It might be a request they'll allow. Hell, they allow people to videotape births, if they ask why just tell them 'for memories.'

Or ask for a piece. You never know.

Why can't they plop your gall bladder in a jar and give it back to you? It's just gonna end up in medical waste, and that's a dreadful thought for something that was a part of you.

Mmmm, panfried gallbladder with onions and peppers.

Or is that liver? *g*

My dad had his gallbladder out, and I don't remember him ever complaining about anything. He did burp a lot, but we're a gaseous family so that may not have been anything out of the ordinary. :-)

Date: 2008-11-15 12:03 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
actually burping is often a complaint of gallbladder removal (You are interuptting proper digestion)

but glad to know that was the worst of it for him

and HA!

Yikes! I'll keep my fingers crossed that the gallbladder won't need surgery (but it sounds like you won't know until they're in there...).

And never heard of sinus headaches doing that... but migraines maybe and yikes let's hope it's nothing more than that.

And clicked!

it's sinus not migraine (i have both and they act different) had it all my life but lately they're worse

Don't Mess with the Gallbladder...

They can be pure evil if they want. I am sorry to hear that it's not looking wonderful. All of my aunt's and my mother don't have gallbladders/ Of course my mother let it so bad she turned yellow and we had to drag her (oh yes litterally) drag her to the hospital. Once there they inform us that her liver isn't working anf she got stones blocking places that are supposed to be blocked. In the long run she's much better but has to watch what she eats. You'll be feeling a lot better once the nasty organ is removed.

I thinks it's awsome you want to show it to class! I wish you could and I am not in your class! But we all know they won't allow it. Damn. I got to see a cat's insides, a cows eye and a pig's kidney when I was in A and P. Wish it would have been human. When I took pysch they showed a human's brain but I could not see it because I was pretty pregnant and could not smell the perserves with out barfiing.

God, get it out of there!

You'll be amazed at how much better you'll feel.

I thought I was going to have to bid mine adeu, but I had polyps not stones and turned out that the pain was 'a pre ulcerous condition' in my stomach. No biggie. Only hurts when I take too much Motrin and my mom pisses me off.

well see that's my worry. I have a BAD stomach so it's very possible that is why I'm nauseous and not the gallbladder.

I am living sans gallbladder. For me, it made me a bit more lactose intolerant. Already had the problem, no gallbladder made it a bit more pronounced. I can eat a little ice cream but have since found frozen yogurt which doesn't irritate me as much. I don't really like milk so I don't have a problem there. Also, fatty foods irritate it a bit. I can't have McDonald's food without spending a day and a half in the john... but I'm ok with Wendy's burgers. (Go fig.) Otherwise, I'm good. :D I hope that all goes well for you and welcome to the Four Hole Club. (To do the laproscopic removal, they cut four small holes into your abdomen.)

yeah I've assisted with the laproscopics back in the day.

I dropped by to point you to a pretty (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paoUyYzcnHc) and wow, no wonder you're worried.

I don't know much about medicine (not even sure what a gallbladder is. gall makes sense, bladder too - but the two together?)

And of course you want it back. Wouldn't be yourself if you didn't.

*HUGS*

bile is made in the liver then stored in the gallbladder until needed

thanks

What I have noticed about not having a gallbladder: I feel a lot better.

Seriously, the gallbladder is the body's second most useless organ, following the appendix. Even the tonsils have some use in preventing infection. The gallbladder? Not that much.

My gallbladder was in a wretched state when they pulled it out, plus I had a couple of gallstones impacted in my bile duct, so they had to do a rather long surgery for it. In your case, it would probably be laproscopic, which is very minor.

In other words, don't sweat it. :-)

disregard my other question...

actually the gallbladder has a very very important role in digestion. It mucks up your ability to absorb certain nutrients without it and can wreck havoc with your bowels without it hence my worry

my other worry is how the hell do they know it's my gallbladder when my stomach is THIS bad too if the scans are all normal

From: [identity profile] sillymagpie.livejournal.com
Sadly, they wouldn't give me my gallstones because they were considered to be medical waste. I wanted them on the theory they'd be the most expensive stones I'd ever own.
:/
