two stores opened today a book store and something calling itself a mercantile. Before I went I detoured to the coffee shop which wasn't a great choice because in walks one of the Maga idiots with a t-shirt Jesus Won (I don't know about you but around here many Trump signs also included so Jesus can win). It was all I could do to not ask him (because naturally he took the table next to mine) HOW did Jesus win. Nothing Trump stands for would be anything Jesus wants. Half tempted to have a shirt printed out Jesus Wept. 2024. But you'd probably find me dead in a ditch around here.

So the mercantile is sort of an antique shop/consignment store and it was pretty nice. It had several things I wanted including a steamer trunk (decent price) and a huge victrola with a scroll work front that if I tossed out something I could probably fit in here but it wouldn't be nearly as functional as what I'd have to throw out. They did have a few things that looked to be uranium glass but weren't marked as such. (so yeah more consignment than antique because nothing was marked with ages) there was a glass platter that might have been uranium but pricey enough I wouldn't want it unless I knew for sure. Two cheap things but previous broken. I did buy two possible uranium glass sundae cups because they were pretty and inexpensive. The vendor didn't know if they were uranium glass either.

I took a look at the book store. I have more books in my living room...and the space was about the size of my living room (it's inside the other store) I asked (before seeing the space) was she taking used books. Got a dithering answer but seeing her space I have no idea where she'd put it. I'll keep it in mind provided the store lasts.

I also finally got into the toy store that opened up a while back. Meh. It's 98% Funkos and superhero figures and I collect neither. I'm surprised the store has survived this long in this town.

Had a miserable afternoon/evening to the point the parents knew something was wrong. Ah depression.

And I forgot to do [community profile] thefridayfive yesterday so have it now

1. What is your favourite food? Oh I suppose I could say something high end like butter poached lobster or seared scallops (and yes I love that) but at the end of the day it's pizza.

2. What is your favourite food preparation method? does anyone have one of these? It's whatever the meal calls for

3. What is your favourite cuisine or style of cooking? Italian. It's my background. It's what I grew up on. It's what I do.

4. Do you have any dietary restrictions and if so what are they? We're going to be here all night. I'm diabetic so that takes out so many things like most fruit, potatoes, rice, pasta, bread and of course most desserts.

And I'm on blood thinners so there goes dark leafy greens, grapefruits, chamomile, hibiscus and several others.

And this is why I get into arguments with a couple of my vegetarian friends who insist it's all healthy for me because it's plant-based and I'm like you're not hearing me. (for the record I don't eat tons of meat either)

5. If you could introduce the whole world to one ingredient to improve their culinary experience, what would that be and why? It could honestly be as simple as salt and pepper but for me I guess it'll be garlic. There aren't many savory dishes it can't improve IMO

I got through the final file box today but in it was a) my medical licenses b) all my malpractice stuff c) my first teaching job's pay scale paperwork d) the source of my worst few years of life e) the lawsuit over my hand.

a) I'm keeping my licenses because I can't give them up (I mean yes they're expired but I want to keep them)

b) outside of a few pieces just in case, I put the malpractice in the shredder

c) This is why I will ALWAYS be against adjuncts because it's such a horrible exploitive system that benefits no one, not the students, not the adjunct, no one but the budget. I was paid 2950$ for 16 weeks of work (about 4K today) not per month. That was four months worth of money. You're reading it right. In 2004 I was being paid 740$ a month. I would have been homeless or living in a dorm if not for a friend who let me stay. My parents paid for my medical insurance and I was lucky to have that

d) Starting in 2004 I was no longer going back to school post injury and I am now responsible for my medical school loans plus all the new grad school loans. Needless to say no one cared I was making 700$ a month. As bad as student loans are now, they were worse 20 years ago. (You should see what's in the shredder pile for the last few days of ALL the bullshit I used to have to do to get an income based repayment. Now I just have to let them see my IRS filing) Eventually I was sued by one of them which in a way was good. The federal court saw my 700$ income and laughed them out of court. Eventually when I got the job I have now I was hit with a 500/month lien on my income which was doable.

But there was default paperwork coming daily. For each and every loan (over 6 years of schooling) so I would have a half dozen each week (not to mention all the calls on my answering machine) It got to the point I couldn't even open the letters. They all said the same thing anyhow. I wouldn't leave my office because if I came home I'd see them and have more panic attacks. When I was still in WI (making that 700$) I was nearly instituionalized over the severe impact on my mental health. In the first few years here in OH (especially 2004-2007) it was bad. they would call and threaten me, literally threaten me (I mean they DID send the police after me when I was in WI to serve a warrant on me for nonpayment before they sued me)

Finally they came up with the income based repayment plan (which they didn't have in the beginning) they'd threaten me with 'you can only have this for a year or two which was bullshit since 20 years later I still have this).

So finding all this paperwork still opened was HARD today. I had to open them all up so what could go in the recycler went there and what needs to be shredded/burned when in that pile.

e) my lawsuit. If you work with your hands or your back (nurses, looking at you) check your state's worker's comp. I didn't know that WI would only pay 10% of my salary for a hand even though I was a frakking surgeon. No lawyer would take my case because it would pay too little. Finally found a desperate small town one who did. got 2K for my career ending injury. I will never be over this. That grief, that loss doesn't heal.

so yeah it's been a rough day, made even rougher because someone trashed the washing machines here so I had to go to Jackson and use their much more expensive ones. Sigh.

So yeah if you have cute pet pics hit me up.

My only good news is I DID send in a story to an open call. I doubt it will get in (they were pretty clear they wanted things closer to the low end of their word count range but there was no way to get that story down to 3K, it is what it is).

Oh and I asked the library to get Lackadaisy. We'll see what happens

What I Just Finished Reading:

Who Cries from the Lost - C.S. Harris. Love this series. This was good

What I am Currently Reading:

Lies on the Serpent's tongue - sequel to Bittersweet in the Hollow (so very Appalachian and oddly the protagonist in this can tell lies just like in Twisted Shadows only she tastes them) it's an arc

Nightshade by John Saul. The library had a bunch of horror out for the season so I grabbed some

What I Plan to Read Next: more library horror

I tip easily and well with food and drink but anything else I forget to do it. Hotel maids? Maybe 40% of the time. Handymen? Uh....and by the time it occurred to me he was already pulling out of the drive. Sir, I am so sorry. I'm broken. (also I don't keep much cash in the house) I did okay your overtime though so there's that. Jesus.

But he did get here. It took him over 2 hours to get this thing built (pictures tomorrow) It looks good, it's big, the poor guy didn't get paid shit for this job, probably lost money (especially someone is a fucking moron about tipping) Out of the 90$ I paid Angi's list for this job he gets 20$/hr.

Rocket wouldn't leave him alone. I had to sit on the couch with Rocket to make him stop trying to convince this man to be friends forever.

It's been an exhausting day. In no particularly order:

1. tv stand is now a tv stand and I lost my satellite tv (finally figured out the cord came out of the strip plug. I think it took me forever to figure it out because I didn't realize the DVR part worked separate.)

2. Ohio Health called MY PARENTS at quarter after 8 today. They thought I had been in a bad accident. Nope. Just morons being morons. 'This is her primary number.' MoM: She would never have told you that. This isn't even Ohio you're calling. I call them and they just needed to change my appt with the knee doc. I'm like you KNOW my number. No, that was your number. Ashley I have a TEXT from you guys yesterday. You know my number. It sure as fuck ain't Pittsburgh. I change my appt.

3. Ask Ashely to double check when my angiogram is. Oh I can't do that. We can't see other departments. WHAT? Even the shit country hospital here can do that. Fine. I eventually log in and look myself. It's the day I just scheduled Ashley for. Call her back.

4. Call the vet. If Rocket's eyes aren't better by tuesday in he goes (he was in a fight and got an ass kicking)

5. Find out my insurance refused an allergy med. Call allergist who already knows. Yes I HAVE been on the meds my insurance is insisting I try but it's been years so now they're insisting I do these worthless meds again. Fine you wanna piss away your money, bring it on.

6. Word doesn't hear my recordings well. Will try again tomorrow...louder.

7. Word's dictate, however, hears me perfectly. Well then. I didn't even need this stupid recorder (I'll still use it for ghost hunting) So all my future recordings will be straight on word. However what it does NOT do even though it's meant to like put in punctuation and paragraphs. sigh

I think I'll do the fandom round up tomorrow. I didn't do any short story this week because I want to finish my [community profile] wipbigbang It's almost 80K but I need to get this done. OMG why another accidental novel?

However I will do the [community profile] thefridayfive
These questions were written by [personal profile] zenigotchas

1. What's the strangest, unexplainable incident you have experienced or have heard of?

I've been a paranormal investigator since the mid 80s. One of the weirdest would be my entire 4 years at Waynesburg College in PA. My first year they had the sorority rooms (we weren't allowed houses because of misogyny by the whole town) in an old dorm. Me and two other sisters went to the basement, opened the door and walked into an operating theater from the civil war with a doctor amputating a limb. Next thing I knew I was alone and fascinated by the time slip. Later I found out the dorm had been used as a civil war hospital (it was torn down over that summer right after this) We also ended up with a weird spirit board session in the haunted theater (also a civil war structure, it's gone now too) getting the name Theodosia and Nav-camp. I did research. Theodosia Knox attended the school nearly 100 years prior and Nav-camp was testing for naval academy entrance (held in the theater)

2. Which mythical creatures or cryptids do you think are most likely to exist or have existed?

As much as i love cryptids, I'm not convinced any of them exist including the Mothman (sorry neighbor) Big Foot (though this would be the most likely) and the Loch Ness.

3. If you became a mythical figure how do you think you'd be portrayed

As angry and stubborn and mystical, probably a witch

4. What animal do others find creepy that you find cute?

I like bats and snakes. Bats are cute. Snakes, eh, less cute but I think they're cool.

5. What is your favorite lost civilization?

Hmm do the Etruscans count?
cornerofmadness: (annoyed malcolm)
And almost everyone is on it. So I get up early finish cleaning the living room, move furniture so the builders can work, dismantle the tv/box/speakers etc and roll it into the other room (note to self don't throw out this ugly metal table, it rolls like a dream. Go put it in the storage unit for...reasons) I sit down to wait and my phone buzzes.

It's Angi (Angi's list rebranded) Ooops we can't make it to your place after all. ... See you Friday afternoon. Are you fucking kidding me? If I had taken off work for this I would have gone apeshit. I put the tv back together and go answer the texts/voice mails from earlier.

The DexCom people never called me back. Infuriated. (They probably don't recognize my non-cell phone number but I can't call from that number unless I go in to my office)

What my insurance wanted was partly aggravating and partly almost helpful. They called to say they approved of my angiogram and gave me the authorization number. But hey could you NOT do it at that hospital? It's too expensive. We can save you money and proceed to give me the hospital I used to have operating rights at. In Columbus. Even further away. I'm like yeah do I have to do this?

Well no. Good because I'm not. It's 30 miles even further away (like 100 miles from home) and I will probably have to stay overnight as is. Wait what? Yeah did you not know this Insurance Company?!? And I want to go to the more expensive hospital because they've been treated this leg for 3 years now. I don't want to break the chain there. If my deductible wasn't met, this would actually be helpful (even if it's mostly them trying to save themselves money) but since it's met I'm like yeah no. Thanks though and she said I don't blame you.

I have some serious headaches/eye strain from reading and reading for my research. I've been here before. It's gotten so bad in the past I wasn't able to read for weeks. I need to be cautious. I'm also very allergy ridden because I am doing what I said I would, taking a bag of bullshit and going through it, throwing out what can be thrown and properly putting other stuff away.

Here's the rub. Some of this are recipes from magazines. Some is travel info mostly from the newsletter my electric company sends that I've torn out. What I need to do from here on out is a) take the travel info immediately find it online and have a folder for those links so I don't have 50 pounds of bullshit paper lying around that I will never look at again (out of sight out of my mind instantly ) b) put these recipes aside for another time when I can look through and scan in ones I would honestly try and recycle the rest.

Add this to yesterday and I have a decluttering plan. Now Dana you need to stick to it.

And for my fannish 50, inspired a bit by [community profile] ladiesbingo let me talk about the ladies of my newest fandoms in say the last 5 years starting with the newest and working back.

I'll start with Helluva Boss which a) doesn't have all that many women b) even fewer that I like.

Let me start with Millie Knolastname, one half of M&M the married imp couple who along with their titular boss, Blitzo make up I.M.P. a group of imps who go to earth to kill people who sinners in hell pay them to put a hit on. Millie is deeply in love with and protective of her husband Moxxie (who reminds me a little of Niles Crane if he were violent) She is probably the most capable member of the group.

On the downside, most of her contributions are the more battle ready stuff and she could be fleshed out more. She comes from a hell pig ranching family with three older brothers, a murdered sister and her other sister, Sallie May a transgendered woman (voiced by a transwoman) Millie is a lot of fun though. I find her very easy to like.

Here's her in action in one of the songs (Helluva boss isn't the musical Hazbin is but has some music) it's NSFW. For context mild spoilers )

I went to see the river circus tonight in Portsmouth with my friend, TH. It was a MUCH better day that last thursday, only about 80 and by night fall in the 70s. Portsmouth is further and I don't know it well and TH hasn't been there in many years. However I found the river front very easily.

TH wanted to see Spartan Stadium first (as we went earlier just to play around) he's a football fan and a history buff. Shockingly this little town's stadium (then called Universal Stadium) has a semi pro team that played the freaking Green Bay Packers in 1936 in that stadium before the team was sold and became the Detroit Lions. Luckily Shawnee U is fighting to take over and use the stadium as it is an art deco structure filled with history (the town nearly tore it down)

For context, Portsmouth has a huge narcotics issue (getting better) and stopped being relevant as both an industrial and port town 100 years ago. They're struggling back now and the historic downtown is pretty vibrant (so good on them)

And I wanted to see Mound park (turns out at Christmas when I went there in the dark after work I had went to a restaurant right across the street) It's the only remaining earthwork in the area. It's a horseshoe structure with zero historical info there but it was good to see it.

I had wanted to see the murals on the flood wall but TH had heart surgery last year and I could see he was getting tired so we got coffee and went to the show an hour early (first come first served seating on the river bank). He had fishing chairs for us and I'm glad we didn't do the mural walk because there were NO paths down to the river without cutting down the hilly grassy embankment. Down wasn't too bad. Up was rough.

This boat was the whole stage. They had some musicians and the rest put on something between cirque du soleil and a comedy act. It was fun. We were mutant fish (the audience) playing along. There was a lot to see (pictures tomorrow). You know that act where a woman swings by her hair in the air? This is the first time I've seen it with a guy doing the same thing. If you're on the OH river in OH/IN/KY check the schedule. It's worth it and it's donation only so pay what you can.

Th remembered Rapid Fire Pizza and wanted to go there (I had other plans but I don't say no to pizza) I've never been there before. It's basically like subway's only pizza. Put what you want on it and they fire it up. It was surprisingly good.

is how dad opened the conversation tonight. He pulled the trigger on buying a new truck (and sold the old one and traded in the miata on it) He was no longer using the miata. It's a pretty truck.

As for me I went for my blood draw this morning. This hospital is getting ridiculous. No one was even in the waiting room but it still took 45 minutes before anyone was called in. she did a good job getting blood but the first stick was non productive until she started on the the second stick and then it makes like a fountain. Side eyes my veins.

From there I went to work to grab more articles on the research. My office computer is still borked but they're SO swamped with the bad mash up of Anthology and Canvas that I'm gonna weight for another week or so before asking IT to fix them. I said hello to a couple friends the biochem prof is from Steubenville (we grew up within 15 minutes of each other though I'm older) tried to beg my Federico's gabagool from me. Nope I'm greedy, ha. L was not pleased to see me but in general she's not pleased (reason 1001 I'm glad I'm off this semester)

They've moved everything in my Kroger's. I know where nothing is. I swear every grocery store I know has do this and my theory is it's a ploy to slow us down and force us to go aisle by aisle so we buy more

Weirdness - my direct tv remote suddenly at 7 stopped working on the tv (but was fine with the direct box) I thought maybe batteries. Nope. Get out the new remote. It will NOT synch with the tv. Give up and get the tv remote to turn down the sound. one hour later the remote is working again. Um...gremlins?

And I can't get into my holzer hospital portal any more because it requires my cellphone but I live to rural to have cell service. I hate this. Fucking just email me the code.

I'm hoping I just irritated it at Costco the other day and not did worse (my rotator cuffs are basically made of cotton candy tensile strength). I have the TENS unit on it now. Hopefully that'll help too.

Ran around today getting hair color and hit a little jackpot at Macy's. I guess they brought in some of last year's leftovers from another Macy's because they had ideology jogging pants for 4.96$ a piece. Yes please, bought up a couple in various colors. Found a pink/purple shirt that I bought even though pink isn't my color. It looked cute.

It seems impossible that I drove to Gettysburg a week today. Where the heck is time going? How is August half gone?

I know I had something more I wanted to share but I can't remember what it was. My brain...

I was going to go to Bloomfield's Italian festival but a) gonna rain b) big signs all over the webpage going 'don't park in the residential parking areas' which is 90% of it. There aren't many parking lots. So yeah hard no which is disappointing but it's SO inner city of Pittsburgh, parking/walking would be so difficult. Ah well.

I spent the evening in the partially below ground bar game room at home watching the live Abney Park online concert, drinking honey wild turkey while waiting on the tornado heading this way while someone is shooting off fireworks. Fun times. In spite of the supposed sighting it must have been nowhere near my area of Washington County PA. It was very still, no wind at all. Who knows.

As for the concert Abney Park hired a 'brass band' that they sent endless emails about costing so much. They hired a trombonist and a sax/clarinet player. While I'm sure that it cost money but man they are the worst at marketing (but great at being annoying with the constant contact emails). That said I very much enjoyed the two guys they hired for the night. It did make things sound great. What was less great was their usual trumpeter singing falsetto for reasons...god knows what they were mind you. All I know was I was not impressed with that (He's never done that before) They have a new album coming out (I'm still waiting for the last new album that JK bought me for my birthday months ago) on monday that is paired with a novel. They thought this was new. I'm like I've seen this done with comic books at the very least. That said it could be fun. Buy it now, see it at Christmas....

From JK EC Comics Revival Introduces 3 New Horror Hosts in the Tradition of the Crypt-Keeper This comic looks good. Speaking of horror that new horror anthology I'm in has broken the top 30 horror anthologies so that's cool.

From Betty Romancing the Vote 2024 the auction raises money for voting fairness etc. There are cool writing related auctions like time with an agent and other things. Check it out.

Other than that all I did was work on lectures all day and write. I got a lot done on both and I'm quite glad we didn't get that tornado...

To my birthday twin [personal profile] thoughtsbykat (and to me) Apparently we share the day with Jodie Whittaker

I hope your birthday was good (or at least better than mine)

It's blistering hot (over 95 degrees) so I passed on the things I wanted to do in Pittsburgh (I'll do that when it's cooler) and planned a day of candy and antiquing. The antique store's webpage had the wrong hours on it and none of them were even open today. Sigh. The candy place didn't have much I wanted but I got some weird stuff like pickle sour candies, chicken and waffles with maple syrup candy bar and a bacon and potato chip one plus some sparkling water called Liquid Death from Austria. I've not sampled anything.

It's been downhill since. Something mom and I ate or drank (either the milk at Dunkin Donuts or the egg rolls at the Chinese place) made us sick, me mildly nauseous, she's been getting sick for hours. But before that we went to Macy's found a lot of nice stuff for the upcoming trip and none of it fit right or if it did didn't look good. Ah well. Roaman's it is.

And it's been storming ever since I came home and the power keeps flicking off. Ah well. I'll plan other things for later that should be more fun.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to wish me a happy birthday. It's appreciated.

My ADHD gets worse. I am struggling to do my research. I have no interest in taking notes. Mostly I highlight some things like it was 1984, make vague comments and get both tired and bored in just 3 pages. At this point I don't see me writing this book. I can easily whip out the powerpoint at the end of this.

Of course I might also be trying to do too much at once and am burning myself out. It's not that I dislike research but reading dry papers (and some of them are poor at best). I haven't made a single phone call to check with these schools. Sigh.

I can't even concentrate on this post so I'm going to let that thought just stand there while I try to figure out a way to handle this.

to mom and dad. My gift to them was to get the hell out of the house. It was easy to do since some idiot forgot to renew her plates before she left home, not naming any names. I didn't even think of it when I was 5 miles from Steubenville for a week at my brother's so I had to drive back down there.

So I also went to Federico's, an Italian shop (since the 30s) and picked up a bunch of yummies. I need to dig into all that mess.

Went to the coffee shop again, didn't write as much as I wanted. I REALLY need to get my [community profile] unconventionalcourtship story moving. My deadline is in 10 days.

It's getting hot again. I am not amused by this. I do dislike summer so.

I did get an answer from my doctor. My insurance told them that I need to do EIGHT weeks of PT which is so frakking stupid because it's not going to fix what's wrong. We can see on X-ray there is issues. They're like say it made your pain worse and they'll okay the MRI. The bad nerve conduction test (which will be bad because I had one in 22 that was) might do it to. I do need to cancel the MRI I have scheduled.

There is some good news though. Mom's doc got a call after her MRI on her spine saying there was a 'brain anomaly' I'm like HOW? MRI's are coned down studies looking in milimeters. how the hell could a lumber spine series show the brain stem?!? and so 2 weeks of vague worry (because I don't believe this can be real) to learn there's nothing there. And oddly we know someone else had this same thing happen and I'm wondering if the imaging centers are running a scam on doctors and patients. (because the docs do not get money from imagining in case anyone thinks that. Boy I wish I got all the kickbacks people think I did)

What I Just Finished Reading:

The Witcher: the Last wish

So I had two questions for my insurance (after finding out they don't work weekends, answering questions when people are off work and can waste an hour) 1. do you cover rite aid. 2. did you okay or deny the MRI request.

1. After about 15 minutes of 'my computer isn't working let me call someone' yes in theory they cover Rite Aid.

2. So I can see you sent me a letter about my coverage but I'm not home. did you okay.

MM - no, we didn't. Oh wait this isn't right. WHY is there no reason

Me - yes I need a reason. Do I need to do PT first? Are you just jerks? I'm walking around on numb legs here. The doctors need to do test.

MM - I'm not sure. This should not be. They have to put in reasons.
Me - This is my usual experience with you.

in horror MM - oh I don't like hearing that

Me - it was the same when I was seeing my own patients. your group fought me on medications and testing.

MM - I REALLY hate hearing that (to be fair this poor woman was trying to help) Want me to see if I can find out why

Me - yes please

20 minutes later - MM I AM SO SORRY. No one is answering my calls. Do you still want to wait or just call your doctor and have them try.

Me - I'll wait AND call my doctor.

MM- okay

20 minutes later the horrible musack starts flickering in and out. And then it rolls over into the how did we do after the service survey. Are you KIDDING ME?

I give her high marks (ever notice these surveys are only for the people NEVER the shit service) and then blasted them on the overall experience.

MM's ai - do you want to tell us why you rated us like that?

Me - yes please.

MM - record your response at the beep.

Hangs up on me entirely.

Me - .....

And adulted the hell out of this morning. They called at 9 AM to schedule the nerve conduction test before I could call them. It was later in July and I whined but took it and she then goes oh wait you already HAVE an appt (in the week I wanted) I'm like so they called me and I couldn't talk then and instead of calling me back they just scheduled it, didn't tell me and was all work it out.

So I scheduled my MRI for that day BUT they still don't have the preapproval and I know Med mutual sent a letter (because USPS is sending me screenshots of my held mail) so I need to call them to see if they denied it.

They can't move my endocrinology appointment that they messed up so I told them fine, hold it to sept (the first available) and explain to the doc why I haven't seen them in 9 months. They're going to try an squeeze me in.

The storm hit last night so I did get in pool time even if it was grey. It started to sprinkle so I came in and as soon as I recovered the pool the sun came out and I glared at it for a while. Now it's clouded again so no Northern Lights for me.

Since Thursdays were for community recs so here we go [community profile] wipbigbang is having a reverse big bang too if you are interested

I also found out the GabaGhoul open call runs til July (yay) and while it caps pay at 5K the stories can be longer double yay because a) they emailed me back within the hour of me asking so they're interactive b) my story is already 3500 words and there is no way to get it scarier in 1500 words. I was wondering if anyone had thoughts but the story has had one death. Do we think two more or three more deaths before the finale?

I talked about how much I love Dead Boy Detectives on Twitter and Lou Diamond Philips chimed in to say how much he loves it too.

On the bad side between conference bills and medical bills I sat in my brother's easy chair and paid out 4 grand. Yikes.

So when I was out in the garden doing war with the elms, I noticed that all the white flags that outlined the cable on the ground leading to my house/new internet that were there yesterday were now against my bedroom wall. Oh they buried the cable....no, there it is on the ground. WTF.

So I call Spectrum because if someone runs this over with the lawnmower I lose internet and phone. They are like what?!? Also there was never an order to bury this thing. Oh My Fucking God. WHY??? The tech said he ordered it and warned me the person burying it was likely to break it (the customer service dude was NOT happy I'd been told that) So they call me immediately to set it up to be buried. They can't come out til the 11th. So almost 2 weeks and it will be 4 weeks since it was put on the ground because monday will already be a week. Yeah this thing is getting run over by the lawn mower, we can all agree on that right?

I am exhausted but packed as I have to be at my brother's tomorrow to take care of his cats while he and my SiL are going on vacation. I really needed more time here but oh well. At least if my internet fiber optic cable is run over I won't be here to worry about it.

None of my packages made it here either. Sigh. There's a host of things I won't be seeing until July.

I couldn't sleep. It was a bad night. I get up for my 8-10 Spectrum installation. He gets there at 820. "I tried to find you but they had your apartment in as N10 (there is no N and there are only 3 apartments per building) Spectrum numbered them from 1-15. God knows why.

When he comes back in a second time to drill a hole in the wall Rocket comes in and is terrified of him. On his third visit inside Rocket decides he's cool and talks and talks and talks to him and wants to play with him and I had to get him out of there. We get it done by 930. 'Be very very careful of this black wire.' i.e. it's a fiberoptic cord made of glass. What could go wrong?

'Oh and we use a third party vendor to bury the fiberoptic cable. there's a 50/50 chance they'll break it and I'll have to come back. "um maybe find a different group?!?" So there's a 50% chance I'll come back to no internet. fantastic.

I get a call about 45 minutes later. Apparently that 10$ more a month I paid frontier included phone monitoring. Your phone went out. Are you okay? So now I'm in an awkward conversation with the repair dude fron frontier saying yeah sorry I dumped you today and I was just about to call and tell them that.

So I call and do that. First guy tries to talk me out of it, apologizing all over the place. I'm like dude, it's done. He transfer me to the guy who will close my account. He's bored and is like well we'll adjust your final bill. Dude it should be fucking free at this point.

I go to work, get caught up in conversations but get the stuff planted. Come home. Frontier repair dude (who knows me at this point) shows up 'do you need me to remove that old router.' No they're sending a box. 'I don't blame you for dumping us. We can't compare to Spectrum's speed.' No you can not. Rocket runs out to give this guy the business and follows him off.

I change over the summer clothes. Get sick. My blood sugar went insane for no known reason. I think it throws me off. Nothing works out well. Make dinner, realize I forgot stuff I needed at school. Go back. get it. Forget something else there. Say fuck it.

Come home pack like I'm moving to St Louis permanently. Will leave tomorrow. I hope to get out early. I won't but I hope to. Neighbors are watching Rocket.

Can't wait to see what I'll forget on the trip.

Let's continue with the Music Monday Alphabet theme with sharing songs that begin with a certain letter. Feel free to chime in with your favorite song(s) that follow the weekly letter. Hit me with your faves. This week's letter is E I was a bit busy so there aren't that many )

To find my internet and phone fixed. No notice anyone was coming but at least it's done. I got to call Evil Little Dog who will be meeting me in St Louis. (sing it) and it was helpful to actually be able to talk over the logistics.

So I saw the sports med doc who looks at me and says you know what you need. Yes a total knee but I don't have time for that this year. What can we do in the meantime? Inject it. Okay with collagen or steroids? Either way not until after my work conference. I'm not trying to drive in a few days all the way to MO with a jacked up knee.

In the end he decided that we need to figure out the numbness issues first. So I had back x-rays today, I need a repeat nerve conduction test and a back MRI in case that's the cause of the numbness which is possible (as it IS the cause of the numbness in the right thigh but that's been there for eons) I'm going to aim for end of June because I have to come back for my oncology visit.

I'm tired. He looked at me and said 'you are taking this so well.' Dude, I'm chill because I came to peace with this 3 years ago when I fell and even before that I knew this knee would require replacing.

I stopped by the Adena mansion and got some plants to help support them. Sweet millions and brandywine tomatoes, oregano and rosemary, in other words the Italian starter pack.

I worked hard on that 6 story series I shared with you. Each story barely has a dozen kudos. Today, same fandom, I posted a porny thing I pulled out my ass yesterday for [community profile] dick_or_treat and posted it at a coffee house in Chillicothe. By the time I rolled on home two hours later it had 30 kudos. Ah fandom, never change (yes please do, let's celebrate plot as much as we do porn)

Found a new boba place in Chillicothe. Very pink. (Very Angel Dust) and the boba was SO disappointing. The thai milk tea tasted like sweet milk. sigh.

going to sign off now as the storm is messing with the power.

Since I can only get on at work (for another full week) if there is something you want me to see link me up here.

My special for me only repair person for Frontier gave me a date AFTER the one I already have. That was worth the extra 10 bucks.

Graduation is in a half hour. It's raining. Can't wait to be jammed in the sweltering gym.

So the biggest news from me is I got back my MRI results on my knee. They're bad. I knew to expect this but I was hoping to get more years. I know I'll need a total knee arthrosis and its nearly time.

The good news was ALL the ligament repairs are fine.

The bad news is the medial mensicus is burst in two places and exiting the knee in two different directions. I've already had 3 mensical repairs already so there isn't much they can do. I'm not in terrible pain and none of this explains the numbness (that comes monday) and none of this explains the bulge at the front of the knee (which I suspect is a synovial cyst) I see the doc next friday after the pressure test. I won't go for a total knee this year though. Let's see what stop gaps we can do (I mean I don't want my whole sabbatical being wasted on this)

Argh

Not only is my phone out at home (and my cell doesn't work that far out) but someone (Spectrum I think) was burying THEIR lines and cut through my internet lines.

FFS.

I need to be online to do my job this week. So I'm in the office at nearly 8 pm which is creepy by yourself.

So I might be silent for the next few days.

Again. I decided to try out a haunted cemetery in Ironton and I know I have to go down 93 to get there (It's on the OH/KY border) so I pass on my GPS's suggestion to hit Vega road because I want to get more than 5 feet from my house before I go on the dirt roads. I know I can hit the next town and jump on 93 there BUT I don't remember how as it's been 15 years since I've done that.

My GPS didn't remember either and starts taking me down one narrow assed dirt road after the other. I have NO idea where I am but I know I'm not going in the right direction. I AM going in circles at one point I passed the same cow three times. It said go to CH&D road and I KNOW that goes to 93 but it can't get me there. After one jaunt on a dirt road that was 10 miles long and having been at this 45 minutes I say next paved road I get on, I'm pulling over and punching in go home. At one point I have to stop on the road so a cat and three chickens could fight it out.

I finally get on a county road but it's flooded so I can't pull over. And then I see it. Hallelujah! 93! I jump on and get there in like 30 minutes (which is about all it should have taken as this is like 35 miles from here b ut I've never been there).

Thanks to find a grave I get to find all the ones I wanted to. Funny thing is the book that I got at the Frogman Festival had the name of the cemetery wrong (so take the next details with a grain of salt).

look under here for pictures and stories )

Afterward I went somewhere students and people at Rathacon told me to try Superhero Creamery which is an ice cream + Froyo+ comic book store + ceramic create space. It was cool. I went with the 1960s era Batman ice cream, the BanaNaNaNa. (banana cream pie) yum. It's in Ashland KY so yes I crossed the river. Never been in Ashland before.

I went back across to Ironton to Melini's an Italian restaurant and it actually had Saltinboca alla Romana and I was excited (the waitress less so she couldn't spell it or pronounce it) I had the chicken version (as I don't eat veal) It was more of a deconstructed version but tasty.

Coming home the GPS almost behaved until I got to Oak HIll (which I know how to get home from) when it short cutted me onto a dead end dirt road and finally over to the Vega road I didn't want to go on in the beginning. On the way home I had to stop in the middle of the road because some chickens were mixing it up with a goat.

Really? WTF chickens?

And I was super excited to find Trilogy of Terror on Svengoolie and laughed because he said no one remembers the first two stories in the trilogy (he wasn't wrong). LOVED the third one when I was a kid. I hid in the hall and watched since these were made for tv movies in 1975

Tonight was my first in person Welsh class. Many years ago (like 12) I took a class here and I learned a little. I'm coming into this one with a lot of Duolingo to unlearn. I still am rubbish at pronouncing the ll, ch and dd sounds. like pure hot garbage. Ah well. There are about 20 people in it (the online one filled entirely) I'm excited because it's something new to do.

I ended up not going to vote in the primary since almost all the democrats are running unopposed so it wasn't worth the drive. The Republicans, on the other hand, were described nationally as a 'knife fight in Ohio' and it's true. There are the OMG stop the Maga Republicans faction of the republicans (more power to them) and the 'you fucking traitors, you should be killed' Maga crowd.

About had a frakking stroke tonight. My computer went black while I was doing something and wouldn't boot. I was literally about to cry. After calming down (this isn't more than 15 months old) I thought 'maybe it came unplugged' Yep that was it but why it didn't give me a low power warning I wish I knew.

So fannish 50 this week more on Hazbin Hotel. I was unaware that a) this is a long process to get to the show b) there are comics c) a four year old pilot which wasn't really brought into the Prime video 8 episode S1 d) eight shows? Come on, I know things are different on streamers but that is too short by anyone's standards.

8 episodes made world building hard and as is my way I went to fandom wiki and YT to mainline some stuff in case there is fic (there'll be fic but I'm sure it will be like a lot of my fandoms, short fic, character studies, I don't think this will be a long fic fandom for me) and that's where I was hearing YT analyses talking about things I had no idea about, like Alastor and Angel's backgrounds. I do think it's a failing that NONE of this made it into the actual show. (More on Angeldust's background in my writerly ways because it got me thinking)

It's probably part of the extremely short S1 run time and the fact that this has been out there for years before finally getting picked up that it was assumed people would know. That is probably a less than excellent way to approach this. Some of the characters have some rich character development and it's sad not to see it. But here, VGMarkis (who I ran into in his analyses from The Owl House) sums up my entire feeling about the speed (warning NSFW by any stretch of the imagination)

While I'm not huge into musicals but I will admit it a) does work well in Hazbin b) has some snappy tunes. If you look there is someone w ho put them ALL into a Youtube (at the moment until they get copyrighted) but I'm sharing three of my favorite songs (and three of my favorite characters and if anyone cares to know if I were to ship any of the dudes it would be Husk/Angel)

First up is Angel's big number, Poison. Warnings: Angel is a BDSM porn star in hell, there is nudity, rough sex, dub-con, non-con, abusive relationship. The dude in the red jacket is Valentino (if I were ever tempted to cosplay this insanely hard to cosplay show it would either be Charlie or Valentino), the powerful hell overlord who owns Angel's soul and is very much about punishing him sexually (definitely a villain in the show) I love the fan theory that the red drool is a form of moth pheromone and is used as a love potion/date rape drug (you do see Angel drooling red though in his case it's probably blood vs potion) You will have to follow the link to Youtube to see this because it's too adult)

The Husk/Angel duet is no more safe for work (or general consumption) than Poison was. Losers is still sweary and sexually oriented

And then there's Stayed Gone, it's a villainous showdown between Alastor (love him so much and you can get his missing info (that he died in the 30s) just from his radio voice stylings) and Vox (along with Valentino and Velvet, the Vees) Alastor is so delightfully creepy (If I'm honest, Vox doesn't work as a character, maybe because he doesn't get enough screen time due to the very compressed run time)
