I am serious about that. I've always been a workaholic. I'm happiest having something to do. When I have little to do, my brain talks to me. It never says anything good. It becomes a spiraling descent and it happens so quick.

Like today (and well PMS is playing a HUGE role in today). House hunting. Hating. This place, this life, just hating.

I mean here are some more of the BETTER options. (warning, house hunting gets rapidly angry and profane...)

In town location Only slightly BURNT

the A frame That A frame. Oh look it's not an A frame really. It's a log fucking cabin and I think the fireplace is THE source of heat. Mom insists if I put up a little drywall, all will be well.

double wide Honestly, this isn't bad but this is the place i tried to find where everything was abandoned and decaying. I never did find this.

whee, a shack only 10K more than I paid for my car Look it even has a look out point for the ATF so I can have a still in the back. Wonder if we still have Granny's recipe for making shine (and no, I'm not actually kidding there). Sadly I kinda like this. Nothing says I live in Appalachia like a double wide tossed on the side of a fucking hill.

sadly this is west of town I'd rather be east. Even more sad...this is about the top range of my ability to pay on my own (well I could probably go another 10-15k). I swear I'd leave the rainbow room as is.

And Dad is riding my ass about having gas heat and no septic tank. Fine, dad, want me to live in goddamn town? Here's one with a lot I can live with. THat's right the leaning tower of Jackson. Hell it's so cheap now that maybe I can afford to fix whatever the fuck is wrong with it's foundation. (seriously, this is on a good street, big lot and it WOULD be a beautiful place if repaired)

the one the realtor has already tried talking me into It's cute but small and it has a shared drive, probably with that doublewide on the hill (same road).

the best of the bunch which ain't saying a damn thing. I need to go back out there and see which this is. You turn by the abandoned barn and....

I want to run away from this place. It might not kill me to look in the job ads, tenure or no. I also really see a huge fight and lots of tears when mom finally comes down here and we go shopping for these houses.

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

I think I built that log cabin out of Lincoln Logs when I was a kid. LOL

Yeah, I can see why you're frustrated. But who knows, maybe one day you'll actually find a good one. /optimistic

I KNOW. Right? that's exactly that that cabin looks like

I now know why it took the stats prof SIX years to find a house down here.

I could only read so much without groaning in sympathy. Touch of empathy too. I could rant for days about the sulphur in our well water that ruins all my silver jewelry and stinks and the constant breakdown of the chlorinator and water softener that are supposed to fix that and how the softener is off now because it turned our drinking water into salt water. And all the houses around here are either overpriced bc bought during late 2000s and I can't really even look until we can sell our place but first we have to put in new carpet, repaint, CLEAN, and figure out what to do about the water!

Oops, this was supposed to be sympathy. Which I have.

trust me I get it. We're doing that kind of crap with Grandma's house since it's unlikely she'll be home and she will be 97 shortly so...

good luck to you too

You've wanted to bail for years... Maybe this is the sign that you should. You have more experience now, so it might be easier?

Oh man! I can't believe how cheap the real estate is there! The fact that you are next to NOTHING explains a lot though! LOL! And you use the same real estate pron site I uses! BUT OMG! a house like this would be $250K MINIMUM in Cali! http://www.trulia.com/property/3079125634-142-N-Bennett-Ave-Jackson-OH-45640 Probably more like $350K and up. But we do have libraries...

oh yes, housing is dead cheap here and it looks it. We ain't got much.

trulia is very helpful since it pools multiple realtors but it's NOT very inclusive of their sites (at least in my area)

Yes, that house you sent would no doubt be over a quarter mill in your area. Sadly, it's NOT in as good a shape as it looks, it's in a neighborhood on the downslide and there's an abandoned house next door and I THINK it's HUD (because trust me, I looked. It's a pretty house)

I don't doubt anything you said, I know it's cheap if you want to live in the worst of crime ridden abandoned neighborhoods. It's just such a shame, I mean when I went to your links I was so surprised how umm... derelict OH looks! It's like Detroit Jr.

and those are the GOOD houses in good places.

You can't judge OH by this though. THis area of OH has nothing to do with the rest of OH. It's like it's own separate reality, more on par with the hill billies of KY and points south (complete with the accent) than say COlumbus or Cinncinnatti

Wow! OH must be strange! I have heard Cleveland is rather depressing- hit hard by the recession (depression) and the loss of a manufacturing base... But it's reassuring to know the entire state isn't like that!

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
That happened to Cleveland back in the 80's. I lived there when it reinvented itself. But yeah it's always been a pit. I've lived all over OH. Never liked one piece of it to be honest. Columbus wasn't bad.

yarg... you have my sympathies! Central Valley isn't so great either. Polluted. HOT and I mean HOT, like 98 degrees on a summer day is welcome relief...And I basically live in a red state...

yes you do (and I currently do too which is unusual for OH)

but I'm all for avoiding the SW in general other than the occasional vacation. I lived one month in Tucson, that was enough for me.
