Tonight was Joanne's memorial

It was nice (but three hours long). Lots of former students (who are now faculty), current students, even her ex-husband were all there to tell stories, read poetry (most of it hers) and play music. One is a former student I know and wow I was impressed by his music. I'm glad he's trying to make a career of it.

It was as nice a send off as anyone could wish for.

Also I'm tickled that today is the day Marty McFly went back to the future in that horrible second movie.


Someone posted some really nice boots in my steampunk group carried by zulily. They were reasonable and then I saw this disclaimer. 'because we're bringing these to you at such low prices we can't afford to do returns.' Oh Bull fucking shit. If you can afford TV ads, you're making money hand over fist. So keep your 50$ boots. I have strange feet. I would NEVER buy a boot/shoe I couldn't return if they didn't fit right. How exactly have we been SO conditioned to accept this as being better than going to a store?

Terrible mind’s take on the idiotic Star Wars boycott which is so fucking stupid. How many times does it need to be said? Being inclusive is NOT the same as being anti-someone else? I was thinking my god I don't remember there being this much of an OMG they hate white people blow back when Samuel L. Jackson and Jimmy Smits were in the prequels. I thought was it because they were small roles and not starring roles? Was it because the social media wasn't what it was? And I think it's both and here's why it’s been a decade since the last movie Really, there wasn't facebook, twitter etc a decade ago at least not to the degree we have now. Ah social media helping to spread the voice of racism like nothing else before it. Morons.

I'm glad the memorial; service for your friend was a celebration of her life. It's nice too that a lot of people came to remember her.

I think people online aren't happy unless they're crabbing about something. Once of the awesoem things about Star Wars is that it doesn't matter what color a character is, they're all awesoem in their own right & skin color doesn't matter. That said, I had no idea there was any outcry over the actors in the new movie, so so much for social media. ;p I'm just psyched to see it & can't wait! :D

I can't believe it either. There is no way I would buy something I couldn't send back (except I supposed those teespring T shirts I've been buying in their limited runs but at least that would make sense why you can't return them)

People are idiots. And yes it's "white genocide" because the lead is a Hispanic female and there's an African stormtrooper. (someone needs to look up the definition of genocide because they obviously don't know what it means). I really feel like racism has gotten worse in the last decade. Or maybe it's just social media making it seem that way.

Either way let their dumb asses stay home. More room for me in the theatre

Yeah. Seriously, how do they expect you to buy stuff from them if you can't return it? Some things I feel better in a 2XL & Some I can wear an XL. What if their sizes run differently from what I'm used to & it's too big or too small? I don't have the money to buy 2 sizes to find the one that fits, plus why keep something that doesn't fit? So they can richer? I don't think so.

Tell me about it. Yeah, really. So what if the leads are a person of color & a Hispanic? And I think there was also something about the woman's armor making her looking genderless/manly & someone found that offensive. *face palms* Seriously. It's possoible & it's possible that since there is a sense of anonymity online, people are freer to make an arse out of themselves, so they say things that are racist which they would NEVER say face to face with anyone (except like minded Moe-Rons), or it could simply be the lack of nuance that the spoken word has vs the written word. Things like sarcasms are lost, things are taken out of context & spread more widely too. Plus there's a mob mentality, People say things just to shock, or cuz they think it's cool, but they would never behave like that in person, so I guess it's also liberating to be an online arse. ;p

Of yes there is that anonimity and people use it. However there is sometimes justice when they do it under their own name and get fired from workplaces that don't put up with that
