three actually

1). clean this pigsty
2) weed that garden. OMG it's like the plastic weed stopper doesn't exist and today it's 90+ with equal humidity. gross.

3) the task I had in mind when I started this post. I'm thinking of combining and updating two old short stories into one more comphrensive piece. I've mentioned these stories b efore when I asked where would you like to see them placed since they were set in New Orleans and I did sell one of them back before Poppy Brite and the countless others made that city even MORE cliched.

That magazine folded before it could see print. As I was digging in the files I realized that I still had an old cover letter and ironically enough it dated to 1996 and it was to the same editor from circlet press who bought my story this year. Is amused.

Basically about the only thing I can salvage is the dialogue and even that has to be updated since wow, some of it is comic bookish (i.e. written out dialect). New Orleans was almost a character in this. Now it'll be Vegas.

But I'll need to research things. LIke where would the wealthy vampire live? In a private suite in the hotel...not as private as he might like. In a gated community? probably better. I think Luc can be a valet for a casino (I'll ask my cousin about doing that work since that's what he does)

Wonders if there are any big citywide parties there ala Mardi Gras (which was featured in the story). I could, of coure, invent my own casino and have IT have a big annual party ...

If you have anything cool to share about a Vegas setting go nuts, let me know. thanks

Thought No. 1: Why not have a casino based off of Mardi Gras itself? Seems to me that would be fitting with the Vegas theme.

Thought No. 2: If you go with thought no. 1, the casino could host an actual Mardi Gras at the appropriate time of the year.

That would be Harrah's casino...

Harrah's is kinda dingy (in my opinion, anyway).

If he IS going to go for just a swanky hotel, there is the Four Seasons at Mandalay Bay.

thank you I didn't like Harrah's either. My aunt used to argue it was the best back when she was alive...

Mandalay Bay IS nice. If I make him live at a hotel, I'd probably just invent it. Then again there has to be high end housing plans somewhere. I never ventured off the strip so i wouldn't know

I'll bet Harrah's was prettier when it was a riverboat, with that theme (at least, less garish).

There's other interesting pre-colombine monuments if that's your thing (Chan Chan comes to mind). And unless you plan to walk up to Machu Picchu I don't see why you wouldn't be able to (unless you had a BAD problem with altitude/altitude sickness) - and anyway there's tons other places to visit in Cuzco besides MP.

Then there's what I call the Coffee Route, which is cool if you're into sightseeing. Desert-Sea-Plantations-Rocky Mountains-Rockier Higher Mountains-Jungly Mountain in 10 hours (this is the one where I met my metal box earlier in the year).

Um. Then there's Chavín de Huántar. Oldest construction in Peru (yes, older than MP). Quite smaller, too.

And tons of other things. if you're serious about it, I can ask around for a good tourism site. :D

let me see if i have ANY money left after i get my new car

but yes archeology is my thing

coffee routes too

who made the Chavin de Huantar? I've never heard of that one...

I'm asthmatic. I worry about my breathing abilities that high

CdH was made by the Chavin people (gasp! I know, I know, but that's how we call them). I believe that eventually that area would be conquered by the Incas, but my Peruvian History is very dusty.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chavin_de_Huantar

Hm. Well, I'd say that CdH is at least as high as MP (I'm not sure though)

But Chan Chan and some other places (Nazca lines, for example) would be safe.

And come between april-november. less rain in the mountains/jungle - unless you only plan to stay in Lima. Then summer time (february) is better - why, you might even see the sun!

Vegas? A snap. I recommend one of the condos on the Strip (that's where Sean Patrick is buying in the next book -- penthouse, of course); there are a lot of them now, and even more being built. There are gated communities, though, but I don't know where any of them are. Not in any parts of the city I've been in.

Vegas is THE place to celebrate New Year's out here in the West. It's bigger than Times Square. (Which, in fact, you can do in Vegas, right down at New York New York -- and they do it for every time zone).

But on the whole, it's a party 24/7.

condos on the strip and more going up? that sounds perfect. Luc's dad can be wroking for the construction company. Arrigo can just buy one of those and be Sean Patrick's neighbor (granted once his Egyptian sire gets into town the two of them would chase the poor boy all over town)

And New Year's works. Thank you very much.

I was thinking of putting this all in cassadaga but there is NOTHING to do there after dark so there was no point.

Yep -- there's the highrises behind MGM (and, I believe, owned by), there's the lovely Turnberry Place up by the Hilton (that's where Sean Patrick wishes to live), and there's at least two major beautiful condo complexes being built in the new City Center. And those are only the ones I've either researched or seen -- I believe there are several more, including that nifty building that was built last year across the highway from the Bellagio.

It's a 24-hour town, there's a reason Sean Patrick loves it.... *g*
