The temporary tooth patches are now using clove oil as a numbing agent. I already broke that off too. I need to reapply it later tonight. My poor tongue is tore up. Not a single damn dentist is open on a weekend around here, not for 50 miles. SIGH.

I went to the Boroughs of the Dead tour about Magicians, Harlem and Washington Heights. It was so interesting. I loved the story of RIchard Potter one of the first American born magicians who was a biracial man born to a slave in the late 1700s. At 10, as a cabin boy, he went to England, met a Scottish magician who took him on as an apprentice. At one point he was making 400$ in Mobile AL right around 1800. That has to be like making 40K now. It's amazing. His life would make for a great documentary (not my story to tell but it would be great to see it).

I'm going on more of these. They're free (tips appreciated) here's the whole list here.

Something weird happened. I got a card today from Lucky Uncle and my Aunt. They almost never send cards and never ever for Halloween. It said celebrate Halloween you hellbound pagan (a joke) so weird. so very weird.

I roasted to death a while back. I was going to do the sunshine challenge prompt today but to hell with anything requiring thought. I haven't logged into my work email in days, didn't do any work in days.

WHat I DID do today was with Dad ran to the hardware store and buy cans of clear acrylic. We sprayed two of my three boxes of human bones. (turned out three cans wasn't enough). It took all day to give them two coats on both sides. The yard looked like a crime scene with bones on a blue tarp.(thank god UPS came before I started laying the bones out)

But it was 98 out there and it felt like 104. So it sapped my life and will to live. I'll keep this short.

The only other thing I did was join up with the Prodigal Son Whump server to do four flash fic challenges, you know instead of writing what I should write.

And here have Lou Diamond Phillips being cute as hell with something I said

eta and now my blood sugar crashed out. Whimpers

I FINALLY got to the Crisis series (so far behind in my viewing) and let me say a few things.
1. I haven't watched Arrowin a few years but decided to watch the whole season since it was its last. In many ways that was a mistake. I had no idea he had kids which not a problem. But my god his daughter is a whiney little bitch. I dont' know if she's on any of the other DC comic tv shows if so I'm not interested. Sadly it was also boring.

2. I had NO idea the John Constantine was apparently part of DC Legends of Tomorrow according to something I saw on Twitter. I was sad that show got canceled in one year. I LOVE John. He's one of my favorites from the DC/Vertigo line.

3. I adored his small part in the Crisis and Lucifer's cameo (I just found out season 4 is in theory on DVD. I need to get that if it is)

4.If John IS in Legends of Tomorrow maybe I need to watch that.

5. Black Lightning's small role in Crisis made me interested in him too

6. Holy Crap I do not like Supergirl/woman/whatever we want to call Cara. Maybe it's just Crisis but she's blah. I mean I feel the acting isn't that great and there's not much to her at all. Maybe it's better on her show but this didn't make me want to watch it.

7. All I can see is three and half men when I look at Lex Luthor. Sigh.

8. I'm glad I started watching The Flash again.

9. I'm getting a better appreciation of Batwoman. It really is ALice I'm not enjoying on the actual show

10. I sadly missed one Batwoman and Arrow on the way to the crisis and missed pt one of the crisis (which was probably either on Supergirl or Legends as I dont' follow those)

I'm quite tired. Tomorrow I plan to just watch TV finally.

ETA - Holy crap I just posted my SEVENTIETH Prodigal Son story. what is even happening? Find it here.

I was meant to clean. I cooked. I made cinnamon- honey vanilla bourbon pecan encrusted banana bread. It's my first attempt ever at banana bread and it's GOOD. I even used my grandmother's sage green hand mixer (you can see it here.) and I made ribolitta soup and talking to L but I'm irritated so that's all I want to see.

Hell even TV Guide wants Prodigal Son renewed. Read about it here.

Have Michael Sheen chewing the scenery in some unaired footage

And here's a sweet Gil/Jessica fan vid

Things I learned on twitter today, in the two unaired episodes we learned Dani's father was a cop and (this I already knew) Gil is like Lou, half Filipino (Now I'm really sad we didn't get these two episodes). They want to use it if they get S2 (crosses fingers).

Also I now have 65 Prodigal Son stories. What is even happening?

The mouse while living under the futon didn't POOP under it or behind it. Once I pulled it out there was nothing to do. On the other hand the photo albums where there which is where I thought they were so where did I put them...

I ended up having to run down to the office. L was there so I got stuck there talking which was okay but it ate away the day. Which in a way was ok because I have a baby migraine.

Today's culinary adventure homemade ganache dipped strawberries stuffed with butterscotch schnapps infused mascarpone. My take away- the alcohol thinned it too much but it was tasty. A butterscotch-toasted marshmallow martini that I could have drank a pitcher of if not for all the sugar and mustard crusted chicken via Not Your Average Joes

Spoilers for Prodigal Son )

My parents made it back from the beach. Honestly I don't like them driving 12 hours at a time at their age but they don't listen to me.

Today I took a nice long walk in the woods at Lake Katherine. Boy there were leaves all over the path so I'm glad I had my hiking stick. It was so quiet and I saw no one other than in the parking lot (which is weird since there were a lot of cars but I guess only I picked Pine Ridge trail). From there I went to the Spot on Main and wrote and then came home and wrote on a comment fic I wasn't meant to be writing (go me).

I did no actual work probably for the first day since before the semester actually started. Felt good.

I finally watched the premiere of American Horror Show: 1984. I generally don't like AHS because I can do without the soap opera and slasher horror isn't my thing per se (though I watched a crap ton in the 80s). And let's be honest I decided to watch this BECAUSE I watched slasher stuff in the 80s and in 1984 I started my senior year of h.s.

I have to say they nailed it. OMG I REMEMBER those horrible aerobics moves. I had to do them in gym class (ours were gender divided no men). I had Montana's heart shaped glasses. In fact I had them in multiple colors. I was Brooke in h.s. (and more like MOntana in college). It's as stupid slasher movie as you'd expect with the world's worst nurse (you missed the fact the dude had a ear off??) I fully expect Brooke to be Last. Girl. It was fun. I hope the whole season is as stupid fun as this was.

all kinds of pictures this way )

Let me start with this. My friend Betty isn't just good for writing links. She's very talented at creating cross-stitch patterns. You can her stuff here. both geeky and otherwise. [personal profile] dragonydreams asked for this.

And I was too exhausted yesterday to do a fan rec Thursday so have it on Friday. I received three really fun fanfics via [community profile] comment_fic this week.

Relaxing. Lucifer

The World That We Knew. Teen Wolf Derek/Stiles (I don't actually know this fandom but this was good)

Malcolm and the Great Outdoors Prodigal Son, Malcolm and JT. I was thrilled to get this one seeing as the show is only 3 weeks old and I only tossed out the prompt on a whim since SO many of my fandoms are old and don't get a lot of fills at the site.

So let's talk new TV? Have any of the new shows caught your eye? Why?

I've taped a few episodes of Evil but I haven't watched them nor have I watched Batwoman yet but I'm looking forward to both.

I did see the premiere episode of Emergence (and taped the others, omg I'm so old. Taped? recorded, whatever) It reminded me of The Passage in some ways (Older cop figure, young girl with special powers). I liked it but didn't fall in love with it (yet)

Stumptown, same deal. It was interesting. I recorded more but I'm not sure how I feel about her. One of the things I DO like is the fight scenes are more realistic. I hate it when you see these slender little women tossing a 250 mountain of muscle around like he's a pillow. (I can handle it with superheroes for the obvious reason). She gets beat up in these episode and half I've managed to get through (OMG I need more time) and that feels more real to her. Her PTSD feels real too as it manifests in drinking and one night stands that make her feel a bit bad about herself. I'm on the fence though. We'll see.

Prodigal Son - It's been quite a few years since I've fallen for a show so fast (Lucifer was the last time) Let's be honest, if someone said CoM write a character who interests you, I'd have created Malcolm Bright (Hell, my planned Nano before I decided to go rogue was about the son of a serial killer!) I find broken men with PTSD fascinating (in fiction at least). Yeah some of it is ridiculous and that part does annoy me but I very much like Malcolm and Gil. JT and Dani need a bit of fleshing out. Dad and Mom are both creepy in different ways and that's fascinating.

Stumptown, Prodigal Son and Emergence are all doing well in the ratings so there's that.

The one premiere I hated was Bless The Harts. I love animated stuff but this was just awful.

And [personal profile] spikesgirl58 has a Halloween treat meme going. I've done things like that in the past. I would love to do it again but the reality is I don't have the time this month. Pouts.

It was like walking into a field of needles getting to and from the car. It snow all day but it melted as fast as it snowed so there's no accumulation. Which was good because I cannot miss another damn day of classes.

Tomorrow will suck hard because the person who's causing the shit to explode at work will be there. Sigh.

I'm going to give Krypton a try tonight. Maybe it'll be good. I have no idea what the hell is going on with The X-FIles.

is to find a way to read the original Nancy Drew. In the 1950s it was edited for length, racism (so how bad was it one wonders if it was racist by 1950s standard) and to make Nancy more dependent on men (You can see what I mean
here).

I can understand removing the racism of the 1930s/40s when the series was originated (basically from what I can tell is the Black maid Beulah becomes White Harriet). It's sad to think they made Nancy less feisty to satisfy the McCarthy era morals (eye rolls, I have no patience for people who think the 50s were so great, including the parentals).

I just reread a mystery for a prompt challenge 'a book you loved as a child.' Parts of Nancy still hold up well, others far less so. Still, I would love to see the original Nancy. The article I linked above has some interesting and frustrating points.

You can't refuted that Nancy is a bit Mary Sue, an icon of wholesome values (read conservative) and wealthy White Privilege but that is looking at it with a 21st century filter. Think about the time period in which it was written. Nancy was, and to many, still is a feminist icon.

That said, I'm not sure I'm interested in reading the modern series, though I was thinking in the shower about was there a Nancy Drew for modern kids. I read a lot of MG/YA stuff and I haven't seen these new Nancys in libraries so I wonder how popular they were.

I haven't written much this month but I DID write every day so I am happy with that.
